My tomato plants were harden off in the sun and were about 6 inches tall when I planted them in the ground. They were fine and were watered very well but after a few days we received a couple of days of rain. The main stem is getting larger but the plants are curling up as if the were rolling into a ball. They are south facing and are receiving full sunlight about 8 hours a day. Are they getting too much sun

Agree that it is herbicide damage but that is some poor looking soil too and why is there no mulching around the plants? Surely by now your soil has warmed enough to mulch. maybe the city was spraying the grass? Call the city. If so then insist on a warning next time so the plants can be covered. None of my other plants are affected (cucumbers, broccoli, etc). Tomato plants are 10x more susceptible than other vegetables. Other than that both neighbours have tall wood fences so I would imagine that would stop any kind of spray from traveling? Not at all. The many other discussions here about herbicide drift problems talk about drift patterns and the long distances it travels if you want to read through them. So ask the neighbors and insist on a warning next time so you can cover your plants. if you mixed one part vinegar and 3 parts water with dish soap and sprayed it on your plant it would get rid of them. That recipe is one of the standard weed killer recipes - 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water with 1 T dish soap - not a pesticide. The pesticide recipe is 1 T dish soap in 1 gallon of water (no vinegar) although it isn't usually listed as effective for caterpillars. One needs to evaluate the sources of such info carefully before using and to test on one plant before applying randomly. Is it possible that is what did the damage? Unlikely as the yellowing pattern of the leaves in pic 2 is classic Glyphosate damage. What can you do? Keep them well watered, mulch them. Trim off the worst of the damage, do NOT feed them until you see new growth, and then hope for the best. Sometimes they grow out of it. If you did over-fertilize, the remedy is to flush with water. But just a word on fertilizer instructions. In general, you did well to apply less than recommended. The instructions can be a good reference point for the strength of the fertilizer, but there are so many variables they are almost useless lol. While the instructions give one set (sometimes a second set for continuous application) of directions and mix ratio --- One person may have a very poor medium. That container will need fertilizing. Another may have a very nutritious mix, that container will need none. Add to that differing container sizes, then consider that the amount applied can vary from an ounce to a gal. or more... it all gets very tricky, very fast. Worse, a medium might be low in one nutrient, but high in another. Education and experience can help you learn plant needs and symptoms. There are a number of nutrient deficiency guides on the web. My advice to those who want to add fertilizers (especially soluble forms that are immediately available,) is to always mix up a weak solution, and if... IFFF your plants are looking like they can use a boost, then add only a little. You can always add more, you can't always take it back.

Bush Champion plants normally get to 4-5 feet tall and 3 feet in diameter and for best production require at least a 7 gallon container (10 is better). In such a small container you will have BER (blossom end rot) problems on the fruit. Watering is not done on a schedule. Container plants require consistent soil moisture levels. So every other day could still be over-watering and in the high heat of summer will be under-watering. You have to break the habit to water on a fixed schedule and that is much easier to do in a larger container. Dave
