Thinking ahead to......stink bugs!

I was reading the "Thinking ahead to Spring" thread, and I wanted to share this info that I learned the other night.

We had a speaker at our MG seminar who spoke of Spring Vegetables, and he suggested that we plant a row of millet as a trap crop.

He explained that the millet is....birdseed. What we buy to feed the birds.

He said the stink bugs and grasshoppers love it, and if you plant a short single row, 6-8' long, then you have the bugs in one spot, and easy to kill.

I am going to try this, planting birdsed in a row in the garden (where the stinkbugs live with a napkin tied around their necks, carrying their own knives and forks), and I think I will try planting some in some big Mexican pots to put in my flowerbeds too.

He suggested that this way, you could use an insecticide in the garden, because you would be spraying the millet instead of the tomatoes.

I think it might be worth a try. I bought a 5 pound bag of birdseed yesterday- 94 cents. Cheap enough.
