Dwarf Avocado

I have been cosidering purchasing a dwarf avocado. right now I have a Florida avocado that I have grown from seed. I have been pinching it since the first leaf buds formed. It is now over 2 feet tall, but I know the chances of getting it to flower are slim to none. Can anybody reccomend a dwarf avocado that I could grow in a pot? I would like to keep it within the 5-6ft height range. I also would like a Hass variety, or something that has the Hass flavor. I was curious about the diffrence between the A type and the B type avocado. I also read that avocado does not ripen on the tree. You pick it off the tree and allow it to ripen. I read that sometimes an avocado that has not bloomed may bloom once there are two trees. I don't know if I would want to keep the sed grown. I have read that some peple have had success but one women said it took 30 years for her seed grown tree to flower. I will keep my tree until I can't keep it because it takes up too much room. Thank you.

I found a Nursery in California that carries several avocado cutivars. I am leaning towards three tight now. Lilcado, Little Lamb, and Holiday. I am not quite sure ye but I do have enought time to decide as spring will be when i can get it shipped.

FYI: Lil Cado is popularly grown in pots in my neighborhood.

I would go back to Home Depot with the label off the container, and go to customer service. They can go to their computer with the order number from the label and identify the grower. This is what they do when a plant fails and is returned, so they can charge back the grower. With the name of the grower and HDs order number you should be able to get the botanical name of your tree. Al

Hi Renee (if you're still there) Just wanted to let you know that I followed your advice throughout winter, and my little tree basically just hibernated. Havnet tried that Jeff-yet. Ethan,two of the three types didnt survive the winter-they are MAGNETS for slugs and snails. The last one is about 2' tall and when I do plant out will make sure all is cleared around it. My neighbors hedge of Dragon fruit is surrounded by bare soil on one side and asphalt on the other. ALL the succulents are doing great.The dwarf Euphorbs have tiny trunks and bloom.

Thank you. I fertilize spring, summer, fall with a good granular citrus food and water once or twice a week in that time depending on the temperature. I water in the winter every other week if we don't get rain. It's on a slight slope which helps with drainage as we have gritty clay soil, a mix of clay, silt and decomposing granite. And I leave all the leaves that fall under the tree as mulch. I lost the two avocados I planted last year. I think they had issues when I got them, they were on clearance. (for a reason obviously, lol) But even though they didn't last, they did bloom a lot and this tree in the pic had a ton of fruit because of it. So I've been wanting to id this tree so to know if it's A or B flowers. I just want to get one more avocado tree for the other's replacement, so I need to know which to get, A or B.

Ashley thanks for the info. Hpw large are the potted avocadoes? Just curious, I have not made up my mind yet but if I buy an avocado tree, I think this would be the way to go.
