THIS is why I order Austin roses from David Austin Roses.
Comments (32)Rebecca- your roses are gorgeous but so much work. I live in Massachusetts. It is so difficult to even dig a hole 10 inches deep with all the rock, boulders and ledge so I try to buy only own root roses. I have gotten some wonderful own root roses from DA and have some more scheduled for delivery next week. I hope they add more own root to their collections. I recently ordered 'Queen of Sweden' and 'Windermere' which is by far my healthiest DA rose and covers herself with delicate soft blush pink blooms from early summer till fall. She is cane hardy in my Z5b-6a garden. The only negative is lack of the "to die for" strong perfume scent that Austins are so known for. sharon...See MoreBest David Austin’s for continuous blooming
Comments (52)I’ve been wondering if I should have gotten Darcey Bussel instead of Munstead Wood. MW is said to be much more fragrant, but in my garden it is only fragrant when conditions are just right. It’s an okay bloomer, but flowers lose their form, size and color in the heat of summer. The flowers crisp quickly in our dry summer heat. The spring and fall flowers are wonderful though. Sheila, do you have a MW? If so, how does it compare to DB? Stephanie? Bishop’s Castle would happily grow to 6 feet in my garden if well irrigated. I keep mine rather dry and the flowers are smaller, but it mostly stays about 4 feet and bushy. When the late summer monsoons come and the weather cools down, it shoots up taller basals that get pruned down in the winter....See MoreMy David Austin’s 2020
Comments (12)Thanks for all the garden love here. Also the photography compliments. It’s just my iPhone and many I took stepping outside for a few minutes to get away from my now at home stressful job. Despite my 15 yr loyalty to Heritage I would say Boscobel is the best of all here. Really my most generous DA bloomer. Graham Thomas is pretty good too. Lady Edna Hamilton is the most beautiful I think but not so generous. A sharp eye would have noticed the Dr. Huey blooming below. I had two plants and one was damaged by a mountain of snow so now the rootstock is blooming. They actually compliment each other. Open to hearing why I should take out the Dr. I get some BS on my Austin’s later in the summer. Last year the Boscobels were almost completely defoliated but here they are. I almost never spray with fungicid. I am militant about spraying the aphids in spring though. I will not let them rob me of the big early June bloom....See MoreDoes anyone know where I can find David Austin’s The Prince Rose?
Comments (17)Northland Rosarium did indeed ask me, and I told them they could use any of my pics, I’m glad to see a few of my pic on their website. Another small rose seller used a few of my HMF pictures without asking. It doesn’t bother me too much persomally, but would have been better if they asked for permission. I’m a bit cautious about ordering from Garden Roses LLC, but I did go ahead and order 3 plants, not enough to be really upset if they don’t come through. Nate did just send an email about their inventory of some high demand varieties being out of stock(Evelyn, Abe etc), so it really does look like he is keeping tabs. I hope it’s a good experience for all....See MoreHeartRN
