Hi Cena, I am glad you had a stafe drive home. Four banty hens. How fun! My sister had a Banty hen as a pet for years. It lived in an old rabbit hutch. My sister would take it for walks around the backyard all the time and that hen would follow her around like a puppy. Everyday we got one little egg. They were pretty small but they were consistant. So we knew what it was like to have fresh eggs. It was basically a two to one ratio to real eggs if one was using a recipe. I had a real good time meeting with you. I really enjoyed the visit. Cena came down to Denver around lunchtime so I ordered out for Chinese and we had lunch together. We just talked the whole time. She brought pictures of her plants and we looked at all her cactus and succulents. While she was here Jenlyn came home from a doctor's appointment and got to meet Cena too. I then got a chance to show her all of my plants and the rest of the house. Talking about the camera, I can't believe I didn't take some pictures while you were here. Some great comments on here, and some of the nicest "ugly" combos I've ever seen! And some of the neighborhood stories.... where do you start!? LoL I'm a color disaster. My wife frequently points it out in my clothing choices and even I can pick it out in the garden. But it doesn't bother me and having such a lousy track record makes it look like I walked on water when I get it halfway right! Here's a bad one. It's got variegation, chartreuse, pastels and a bold red... and a couple weeds for good measure.

Personally I think your cactus has made some very good progress though out the summer. Although I would have removed the clear plastic pot covering and would have PIG'd buried in apx 1/3 of a good part of what leaning thinner lanky pads it has. Which with the lack of zone mentioned it might not be to late for you to bury in those parts that are less eye appealing I would hold off on re-potting any secondary plant parts of it or as a whole for a later date but would favor removing the better looking rounder pads for fresh new plant rooting potential in respectable sized pots of your choice. A smaller scale example with explication of plans Although very dry and burnt knowing it is in real rough shape my plan is to bury the wrinkled bottom segment deep in a pot ( plastic, TC or what ever type I happen to have on hand that's deep enough). Some time between October early Nov. I'll be also burring in the deeper pot any of the existing root. soak it to it's drowning death then find a warmer than frost basement dim lighting corner until apx mother day of 2016 at which time it'll be forced outside for for an hour of sun and be moved for more hours of full sun after a couple weeks as the sun increases to total of five hours by early June After June it's on it's on there after for at times what is a good 12 hours of fullest hard direct sun When repotting I suggest you use a very good draining soil, gravel sifted for size and other good draining materials such as pumice or perlite with some light organics that can be found in a standard potting soil for feeding. The mentioned potting soil may require sifting and would preference you to use a harder wall pot over the thinner flimsy plastic pots.

Haworthia grafted on to Opuntia? Are you sure that will work? Haworthias are monocots and Opuntias are dicots. They are very different. I'd leave the lighter color Haworthia pups attached to the mother plant or just cut them off and hope for the best. Why cut them off and graft them on to something else when they are already connected to the most compatible rootstock?

Nah,I think you need to be able to conjugate many elements to make it work: artistic eye, attention to detail, healthy plants, right amount of decorative items, dedication and right design (among others). Otherwise, it just doesn't work. Obviously you have that skill and I don't. :D

Yes, I check out a few Pinterest sites. Lots of ideas there for sure. If you have some favorite sites send them to me.

I'm getting ready to do one of the craziest things ever in my front yard tomorrow. Bob is raising his eyebrows. If it turns out well I'll take pictures. If it doesn't few will ever know ... :-)

Roselee, Is that the Madonna Cactus? And, I was trying to figure out the birdhouse. Is it a door up above it? Your garden is always so interesting. Love the way you arrange all the gifts from friends.

We love junque, too. We found this Cheshire Cat at the flea market for just two dollars. Couldn't resist adding Alice and the white rabbit, lol. We're trying to get the pink Mandeville vine to wrap around it.

Junque? It's all good! :-)

Irene, your arrangement of the Cheshire Cat. rabbot and Alice is darling! What a great idea to use them with a Mandavilla vine. That makes it a 'story book' garden for sure.

The cactus is another of the same kind as the Madonna form, which has grown so much now it doesn't look the same.

The seeming hole in the 'steeple' of the 'church' bird house has a piece of colored glass in it to resemble a stained glass window.. A dear friend who lived a few doors up made all the birdhouses I have plus two wooden benches I have in front. Then she had a terrerfic garage sale and also gave me a bunch of stuff when she moved.

Omar. It took me a few to figure out what the "well" was about ... LOL The project doesn't look as startling/striking as I thought it would. Son Doug walked right over it and didn't even notice it.

Funny thing is Bob liked it so much he wanted me to make it wider, which would take a chisel! I'll take a picture tomorrow.
