The Birthday for August is....ME!

A little about myself...

I am married and have 2 little boys. I also have 2 dogs, a cat and 2 guinea pigs. I like to garden, but this year I don't know where the time went. Between the heat and my neglect it is just a bunch of brown. I don't really have a wish list. Easy Growers is probably best!!

What do you consider an easy grower????? I have learned that what is easy for others is not easy for me...LOL! The bunnies, the snails, the heat, and so on.............

True True Annie...for me easy growers are Marigolds, Sunflowers, most Gaillardia, coneflowers. This year I had a horrible time with getting Tomatoes started. I gave up after my second attempt. Luckily my sister has been bringing me things from her garden.

Well what do you know!!!I thought it was all over and the cards are still rolling in!!! Thank you to LISA!!! She sent me a lovely card with 2 types of Basil (I have never seen Africa Blue CANT WAIT!!), Hakone Whate double balloon Flowers!!! Hey April Birthdays -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU ALL! I hope you are enjoying your month. And best of all, the month isn't over and at least one of us still needs to get some out yet! That would be me :) Alwaysagarden, could you drop me an email with addresses? Or someone. I remember getting an email that said to save it and um, well, I failed. I have kinda been a bit lost. I've been working full time for 3 months now and job will probably last another 2 months at least. I'm not used to full time. It puts a big cramp in my old routine! I love part time where there was actually time for email, internet, hobbies! And now garden time is approaching FAST! I recently found a fantastic variety of commercial seeds which surprized me -- at a local feed store! I can't wait to get back there! And I really feel a deep NEED to spend some time at the nurseries in town!!! And this job is depriving me of my addiction! Actually I'm just kidding. So glad to have the job to have the money to spend. Anyway, I haven't posted much but you April birthdays are on my mind and will do what i can soon.

I've had a good birthday already! farmergirl2009 sent me some annual poppies with mixed pinks. I don't have any pink poppies and the more poppies I see te more I love them, so these are very welcome! I also got a wonderful surprise, salvia 'Snow Nymph'. Salvias are beginning to really interest me as I learn more about plants, and I just love that this is a white one. Next year I hope to add some more to the garden, but it never occurred to me that I could have a white salvia. Thanks so much! I will certainly love growing it. I hope to sow it in a jug this summer so it will overwinter and flower next year. Can't wait! Lastly, she gave me a flower that was just highly recommended to me--a nicotiana! So exciting! Can't wait for the wonderful scent. It's a Purple Perfume nicotiana. I just love scent flowers. Literally, in another forum last week somebody said i should grow them if I want heavy scent. Then--BAM--here they come in the mail! canyonwind also outdid herself. I got MORE poppies! She sent me dannebrog laced poppies. I had never heard of these, but they are BEAUTIFUL! Any poppy lovers need to seriously check these out. Then she sent some more of my favorites--Susie formula mix of Black-Eyed Susan Vine and a bushy sweet pea. I appreciate these SwallowTail seeds especially as I know the Susie Mix, which I don't have, won't come true from harvested seed. Thank you so much for sharing your commercial hybrids with me! And, as I've already said, I LOVE LOVE LOVE scent flowers, so I LOVE LOVE LOVE the sweet peas. I am out of trailing vine room, so these bushy sweet peas are exactly what I need! Can't wait! I am becoming quite the poppy lover! The more I see the more I love. Somebody down the road grew them by the roadside and they were neck-jerkers every time we passed, and that started my interest in them. So far all three birthday buddies have blessed me with poppies--Dannebrog, mixed pinks, and lavender. These will all be brand new and wonderful! You girls are reading my mind. I can't believe how great the seeds in my first three cards have been. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! Deanna P.S. Happy birthday to sand_lapper rose's husband today, too!

I have been out of town for several days "goofing off" on the California coast and in Southern Oregon. One thing I do well, is goof off...LOL! I did stop by the Baker Creek seed bank in Petaluma which is North of San Francisco...very cool! The seed bank, like the website, does have a great selection of seeds! Heidi, an early birthday greeting from me to you. It rained today and rain is in the forecast for tomorrow so my plan to harvest is put on hold. I will be away this weekend but as soon as I can harvest some special things I think you will like, I will get them off to you. I apologize for the delay but I will be thinking of you on your big day. Enjoy it and make the most of it.

It contained Zinnia seeds. Thank you I love Zinnias.

Happy Birthday Heidi! My card is in the mail to you! I also wanted to thank Margo for sending me some great flower seeds and a cute card! We had our first hot day today 99 degrees! I was so happy. We went to the beach after I spent the morning planting seeds. We have had such a mild summer I am predicting a really hot next couple of months. I decided to try another planting of some of my favorite warm season seeds just to see what happens. Last year I had tomatoes and strawberries still in November!
