How old is the Bunchosia?

Congratulations on all the excitement, are they all in pots, how old, how tall, where do they overwinter?

My dwarf ambarella has had fruit on it for months now (and put on more), still not sure how to tell when they are ripe. They are starting to swell and change color a little, I hope that means I'm close. They are interesting but dirty trees, I hope the fruit is decent.

I also have a che but it is a seedling with it's own roots. They grow to be large trees, might even be able to grow outdoors in your area? I think they are rated to 10F or something like that? Plus I believe the osage orange rootstock is even hardier?

Nice plants! How old is your Ambarella? I have a few grown from seeds and they are now more than 1ft tall. Not sure how long they need before fruiting.

Ethan- the Ambarella is one of my favorite. you can eat it green or when it ripes (yellow). Yellow is more soft and sweeter than green. We usually dip the green one in salt and red pepper. I even heard that for the dwarf variety you can eat the whole thing since there is no seed inside. The fruit smell great when it is ripe.

I like the white Muntingia (I have never seen it in white).

My dwarf Ambarella seems to take forever to ripen. It turns golden (almost ornagey) when ripe and soft. It has a big pit inside. I like the taste though when really ripe.

What are your plans with the Noni? I have a huge one, always have ripe fruit, but never tried one.

Thanks everyone! The Bunchosia and Cacao are both about 4yrs old from seed and finally sending out their first blooms. Those both stand 4ft tall and wide. The Muntingia is about 9ft tall and is approaching 3yrs old. I really like the taste of the fruit and the fact that they look like pearls hanging off the tree. The barbados cherry and guava are about 5-6ft tall. My ambarella is about 2 1/2 ft tall from seed at 3-4 yrs old and has been trying to set fruit since about 2yrs old.

Everything is currently potted but the Che will be going in the ground in a couple of months. In the winter months everything gets crammed into my greenhouse which you can see behind the Noni. I haven't really tried processing the noni fruit but have tasted it. Rayandgwenn save yourself some spitting by not bothering trying the Noni. Believe me, you're not missing anything worth tasting.

Are the che fruits self fertile?

Che fruit trees are dioecious, therefore you usually need a male and female tree to produce fruit and seeds. There's info out there on eyekr's particular clone, apparently its a female that sets fruit without a pollinator, although there's no seeds.
