carly thank you much for the very nice plants from your garden :)) she sent me lantana hybrid yellow witch is my 1st lantana , plumbago auriculata , my 1st also :))
my favoret of the box is a very nice hibiscus rosa Sinensis
yellow & then was a dusty miller that will fit right in with them all . it is nice and cool this am so going to go get them placed in their new home :))

It's a "person of the month" robin. Some robins are true round robins--that is, they go from one person to another, in a circle. In those types of robins, you get a box filled with goodies, choose the ones you want, and replace them with other goodies and send it to the next person down the line. It gives you a chance to get garden things you might not be able to find in your hometown. A good example of this type of robin is the "Garden Trinkets and Seeds Swap" thread.

Other robins are a one-time deal--you get a name and send that person a package, and someone else sends you one, usually themed around a specific holiday or plant. The recent "Memorial Day Swap" thread was this type of a robin.

Another robin type is a "birthday club" or "person of the month" type of swap. In this type of swap, you get 12 people, and each gets assigned to a specific month (usually their birthday month). For that month, the other 11 people send a garden-themed box; in turn, you send out to whoever's month it is during the other 11 months. So, you send 11 boxes out throughout the year, and during your month, you get to enjoy 11 gift boxes sent from the other members of the circle. There are several of these types of threads, so to distinguish them and make it easier for the robin members to find this particular robin thread, I've called it "Royal Gardener of the Month." I really like this kind of thread because, for me, it's kind of a throwback to the days when you just couldn't wait until it was your birthday and you felt so special the whole day. When you're an adult, too often your birthday starts to turn into just another day, what with work and responsibilities, etc. So this type of robin is a way to kind of feel special and feted all month. Plus, you really feel like you're starting friendships with other gardeners all over the country.

Hope that helps. Sometimes robin members have to drop out for various reasons, so all different types of robins are often looking for replacement members to jump in. Keep an eye out if you're interested--they're a lot of fun!

well I recieved a great box from claud111 today & oh where to start 1st its a toss but guess I just have to say you must have a beatyfull garden love to see it one day .
I recieved a Kalanchoe plant very nice , iris blue /orange falls, white cala lily, yellow canna, Hawaiian white ginger , 4 lily bulbs yellow & nastrastium
seeds all arrived in very good condiction & are all potted up to give them a chance to get use to my soil here in the north .

hi. hope your month is going by great. It is nice to be at home finally. I was going to get your box out before I went into the hospital but things got crazy around here preparing for the baby. He is finally here Born July 7th @ 12:21 pm weighing 7lbs 6oz and 20 inches. he is a beutiful healthy little boy. I will have your box out this week. I haven't been at home until this weekend so I have a lot of catching up to do and boxes to get out but yours will be out first. I don't have alot of Plants due to being new at this but I'm sure between me and my grandmother we will make you up a great box. I'll post the Dc# when I send it. Happy Birthday....And hope the next part of the month is great for you.

& plants . just not one but all are so lovely .
I recieved a stain glass type hummingbird windchime oh so pretty, a 3 pocket green garden apron so now I can wear my jeans with no pockets to work in :)) for I can carry
my pruning shears marking tags what ever now in my new apron thank you but thats not all I got a pair of hardy grip gardening gloves , a bar of two;s company soap :) what great smelling if it don't chase of the bugs it sure will attact them to me ;)) maybe I will be luck to pick up a date with it :)) some time :)) love the smell anyway .
also is a tin can for burning a candle in with butterflys

I'm glad that everything made it o.k. I was a little worried about the guara. I know cannas and daylilys ship well but I've never sent or received a guara in the mail.

The purple daylily didn't have a tag on it when I bought it and I almost didn't buy it but I really liked the color. It's a pretty flower. I'm re-doing my front flower bed to have purples, pinks and blues. So, it was a happy addition.

That's French soap, DAH-H-HLING! Maybe that's why it smells so good. If it works on getting you a man, let me know and I'll whip out my bar of soap that I've been saving for a special occassion and put it to good use, lol!

Those garden aprons are handy. Before I got one I use to make a million trips looking for my pruners, where did I put my gloves, where's my smokes. And now, I carry Vicks vapor rub in it for bruises. If you put Vicks on a scrape or a bump immediately, you won't get a bruise. The older I get, the easier I bruise.

I'm so glad that you liked everything.

I forgot to answer your question about the gladiola. I leave mine in the ground year-round here in Texas. They come back every year. I don't know if you could in your zone.

I didn't know that about Vapor Rub preventing bruises. I'll have to try that--I bruise like you wouldn't believe! And since I'm paler than the gothist Goth who ever gothed, every little bump and bruise shows up. Of course, then I'll smell mentholated all the time, but I guess you can't have everything!

I learned that from my youngest daughter's babysitter. She was my neighbor and she was from Mexico. One day she told me that my daughter had hit her cheek on a table but that she had put Vapor Rub on it and my daughter's face never did bruise. I've used it ever since if I have it handy. It works.

Yeah, I need to get around to sending out messages about what we're doing for December. I am going to match names for those who wanted to do the swap and those who said whatever everyone else decided was fine, and give a month off to those who specifically requested that option. I'll do that in the next week or so--I've been swamped the last couple of weeks or so with finals, papers, etc. since we're in the last week of the summer semester, but after this week I'll have a week or so off before fall starts--

Also: A reminder to anyone who hasn't sent out a July package yet--we've got about one week left in July, so be sure to send out your package to Sue and post the delivery confirmation # in the next couple of days. The robin only works well if everyone participates as agreed--

Just a reminder: We're down to the last few days of July, so if you haven't had a chance to send a package out to Sue, now's the time! If anyone's not able to still participate in this robin, let me know.

Not been around a computer because of a family disturbance but Sur your Pkg did go out Thurseday and I can't remember if i put a tracking number on it but i think i go tin too big of a hurry so please let me know if you get it and if not I will send a new one. I'm so so sorry I will explain later on when I get home I plan on going back to the house to stay this following week and wil catch up on everything. No Hun. I never did get that box out as the heat was just too bad for me to be outside for very long at a time. I had a heat stroke in late '99, and haven't been able to take much since then.
Your box IS packaged up now, and is waiting for tomorrows mail my friend.
I am so sorry that I didn't post about not being able to send the box.

I hope you are resting, and that your back isn't giving you too much pain.
I am also sorry about the loss of your dear beloved bird Deni.

Sue I wil send new plants as soon as i can get everything together i am so sorry i called my self watering them real good before sending. I am in the process of moving because of my problem a couple weeks ago so happy to report everythign is going great now just have to wait til next year to transplant everything from house #1 to #2 it is a very nice 3 b 3 ba house brick with lots of yard and very fertile soil. Hope your month was great and promise to get you more plants soon.

its really hard to send plants in the heat seem as if the only things that make the trip are the irises & daylilies, hosta, guess they are tougher than most :))

recieved the box today thank you since tina & i was in both birthday robin's she combined the box into one :))
so I will let you all now what I got :))

there was a square cookie tin with 6 glad bulbs.
& then in the bigger box was 8pks of seeds
zinnias ,poppies,marigolds, daisys,sweet williams,
sweet peas,aster,& baby's Breath .
also in the box was 2 spider lily bulbs, &4 other bulbs
not sure but thing they are daffodill maybe,
she sent a 1.75oz millstone vanilla nut flavor coffee
witch i will fix tomorrow :))enjoy it while I read my daily gw news .
& a shopping list note pad . & also for the pretty card .
