Mountain Lion Siting in Massena NY
Comments (2)Folks, We spotted a mountain lion in Hamlin, NY, right off Rt. 19 where the town just put in a new trail system. We had a similar experience to others posted here. Two of saw the cat as were hiking today. At first, I spotted the cat as it ran across the main path, but I thought it was a VERY big fox, because of the red color (not really thinking cougars here). After we got deeper into the woods, on a side trail, we came across it dead on about 100 feet ahead, but thinking at first it was a deer -- until I saw the cat's head, and thought geez, that looks like tiger. Then, I realized OMG --that is, it's a mountain lion! We both saw it at the same time, and I never turned, tucked tail, and ran so fast! We hauled out of there scared skinny that cat saw us. We made a narrow escape, when I saw that head my animal instinct kicked in, I knew we were in big danger. I felt like we were back on the steppes of Africa suddenly exposed, like in a dream, where you are suddenly confronted with an attacker. So there you have it, sighting of cougar along Lake Ontario, western NY, about 30 miles northwest of Rochester. Anyone else care to verify?...See MoreMountain Lions in NY

Comments (30)Alligators scare the snot out of me. When I visit my relatives in Fla. I am always on the look out for alligators in the canals. My brother's place backs up on a pond (swamp) where some have been sighted. I haven't heard of any more mt. lion sightings but not doing as much outside work. The summer garden is winding down, though it is getting time to plant the winter/fall garden. We use to find lots of black widow spiders when we first moved in. The horse shed, which later became my garden shed, was full of them as was the garage. Both places needed major cleaning. The previous owners were a little strange, another story another time. Sort of hoarders. We keep the place neat and tidy with snap lid containers in cabinets so don't seem to get them as much anymore, though there was one in the corner by the front door. Raid took care of her. Clare...See MoreOT mountain lion at Macy's!
Comments (8)Kate, they are beautiful, for sure. Even more so from afar! This photo's from a year ago about 5 miles from us near our daughter's house. The bear was just tranquilized. It's more common to see them than mountain lions. Though extremely cautious about the safety of people and animals, the authorities are equally concerned with getting these critters back to their own digs....See Moretortlemon
