Glenn flowers drying up baby mangos in a week

Lacentilla same story, this one started blooming at the sametime as my Edward

Keitt getting closer

Haden, nada yet

Mallika, going at about the same pace as last year havert my TWO mangos in late Oct.

Manila, my late bloomer should catch up with the rest of them real soon.

Carrie,is doing well and my two sunburned victims from last year (Thompson and Alfonso) have real nice new growth.

Joe - let me be the FIRST to congratulate you your first offspring of the season! Fast Eddie is the fastest one it looks like.....

intererestingly - my manila is WAY ahead of yours blooming, my keitt and glenn are at about the same place, my pickering has been carrying flowers so long, but i think I see a couple tinsy winsy ones....

I'll post something in another week when I'm sure of the delivery date!

Boy,it's rough out here in Socal! You can see why we harvest our mangos in Oct. Nov.

I'd say about 2 feet of growth, although, it seems to be straggly and all over the place - now don't forget - it was really all in one year 2011, as it was too late in 2010 to get any growth, and it had to settle into its new home, get adjusted and all....this year will be a true test of its vigor I feel... And no I've never seen a large Edward in SoCal that I can think of.... MD

Planted an Edward and Carrie 3 years ago. Edward has an upright growth habit with a nice landscape habit. Edwards Just fruited this year and holding about 10 fruit. Carrie when picked a bit early and ripened off the tree is the best tasting Mango I have ever had and they say Edward is even better. I should be able to taste my first Edwards in about a month. Edward they say is a shy, but reliable bearer and often named as everyones favorite. My Edward has more Mangoes on it, then my Carrie tree does this year. Both trees are still juveniles tho.

Thank you for all your kind words. It means a lot to me. I do have to chuckle at myself, though. I got my dates off with everyone home for so many days over the holidays. *Yestereday* was Twelfth Night, not today! I do know that it's the 6th, but thought that today was the 6th! Oh well. Syble: Yes, my good friend is a great crafter. She's made me many decs over the years, including the two Christmas Bear candy jars that you can see next to the kitchen sink. Jaybird: too funny! I'd forgotten how late you were posting last year's Christmas pics. We can be The Late Team here ;^D Luckygal: thanks for your comps and for the link, too. As for the painting on the antique window in my powder room, it's a piece I bought from an artist here many years ago. It's a reverse painting of three santos (saints). I LOVE paintings on old windows, and paintings and photos of interesting windows, as well. I wonder what some psychiatrist would say about us because of that(LOL)? Milosmom: thank you, that's such a sweet thing to say! DG: Now you can see why your wonderful tablescape using your own Christmas village pieces excited and inspired me so much. I'm already planning on using some of my pieces next year on a holiday table. What a great idea, DG! Phonegirl: thanks, I'm loving those dishes, too. They look so cozy and honey to me. Karen, I'm glad my pics aren't too late, thanks! I do love our family tree. I should have included a pic of the F-P "ornaments". They really are cute. I'm glad you remembered that it was Luvs who alerted us about the cardinals. I'll thank her in a minute, as I love how great they work on my mantel. As for your Christmas Village, maybe we can both try using some of our pieces in a tablescape, a la DreamGoddess', next year. Gosh, that was a great table idea! Kathleen: thanks! Will you give us a little seminar someday soon on photographing tablescapes? Either here or on your blog? I do remember you telling me to use a tripod. I need to do that, as many of my pics were blurry again this year. Any more helpful hints would be MUCH appreciated! Jeanne: I'm glad you and others here can appreciate our Southwestern decorating. I can imagine how different it could look to people not from here. As for my newest Phil Sonier photo, we're really enjoying it. This is the one Coldwater Creek used on it's catalogs for years. Phil told me that he actually saw it on a billboard advertising CWC when he was in Kenya once! That's a loooong way from Albuquerque! When it first came out on CWC, there was this big debate as to whether it was a wolf or a bear. I knew right away, but Phil confirmed it to me himself . . . it's a wolf. Luvs: and thank you for the great heads up on those cardinals! What a great buy for so little money. Yes, it was the best gift to have our DS home with us over Christmas. I miss him already. Jane: your compliments mean a lot to me, as I'm a huge fan of your own decorating and tablescaping talents. Thank you. OA: You can come anytime and be be a real guest here! "HL" is short for the store chain, Hobby Lobby. The Pecan Crusted Beef Tenderloins were fabulous. We found the recipe in Food & Wine. As for my trifle, no it's not hard, but it does take a while to get it all together. I first slice pound cake into long, thin, 1/4" slices and let them dry out a bit. Then I spread half of them with seedless raspberry jam, cover them with the other half and cut into 1" cubes. I sprinkle them with Marsala wine and then layer them in a large, footed, clear glass trifle bowl. The layers are the pound cake cubes, my homemade custard, fresh berries and tiny mint leaves, and broken (real, Italian) Amaretti cookies. I top it with mounds of fresh whipped cream, toasted slivered almonds, berries and mint leaves. Back in Victorian time, it was called a Tipsy Trifle because liquor was used in it. Anyhoo, it's wonderful and we all love it every Christmas Day dinner. Let me know if you ever want the recipe itself. Lynn

That's an awfully big pot to start that little guy in. Overwatering sounds about right-a heavy soil like that, along with being in a pot too big for the plant.. transplant into a smaller container, doing your best not to disturb the roots. That's just my thoughts on it-I'm sure some more seasoned posters will provide additional input.

Nice pictures JF!! Congrats on all your blooms and baby mangoes...with each sunny warm/hot day the faster the blooms and fruits will develop. Good luck! Thanks for the great pictures and update.

We've had almost 4" of rain in the last 8 days and we're expected to get more today...I'm a little worried that the mangoes will be "watered" down due to this unusually wet Spring we've had so far. We're normally very dry this time of year...Summer is our rainy season. Since the mangoes are still quite small(pea and grape size) maybe it will be okay...

MangoDog, I hope your Champange mangos make it to next wednesday. they were semi-green yesterday look at them now, I might have to eat them all!

jfernandez, I believe you have the healthiest looking mango trees in California. did you stop watering during winter? What do you fertilize with? I can only hope my trees will look half as healthy as yours.

Nice looking trees. You guys in CA make me jealous with your blemish free trees. Down here in FL most of mine are always covered with powdery mold that seems impossible to get rid of.

First of all excellent looking mangos thanks for sharing them with us.

Im also in Southern California, and was wondering if you (or anyone else) knew a nursery or somewhere I could buy a Glenn mango tree in the Orange County, Los Angeles, or Riverside area. I'm located in Anaheim so Orange County would be the best but I've been looking around and can't seem to find anywhere that sells them so I'm willing to drive fairly far to get my hands on one.

I stopped watering at the end of November just started again last week. Last year I used Grow More 10-52-10 fertilizer, recommend by Quan of Ong's Nursery, every three weeks. This year, I'm going with alaska fish emulsion every 4-5 week. I also mix my eucalyptus mulch with chicken manure another recommendation from a CRFG old timer.

You can buy a Glenn from your local Armstrong Nursery in the summer, they'll order one for you from Laverne, or you can pick one up in Mimosa Nursery in East Los Angeles.

Yes, that's an interesting comparison but I'm afraid I'm going to have to wait a few years to see any meaningful results...my Edward is only 5' tall.

It just stop raining and I went out to check out the mangos and found little mangos in my Lancetilla.

1. and 2. Lancetilla
3. and 4. Alfonso and Thompson pushing new growth on the comeback trail.
5.My Ataulfo beat up because of the supid cat next door, it fall on top of it. I told my neighbors if I catch him again #$@$##@$

7.Saijo persimmon growing by the minute...can wait till it fruits. anyone try this variety in California?
