Pj, we had a pond almost 2 decades ago so I don't remember. I would think it would be like losing a ground plant only slimier, lol

Standard issue fish - bass, catfish, crappie...
They have more than enough to eat! My *guess* is that plants just decompose in the water if they aren't happy.

What is fading on you, PJ? Water plants go into 'shock' pretty much like land plants do. You can cut back any limp or yellowed foilage and wait for the new growth...it'll be healthier. BTW, do you want any more plants? I am moving and who knows what the next folks will want to do with the pond. I have lizard's tail, dark purple louisiana iris, spider lilies and green taro in excess. Let me know.

I don't know the answer. I generally have the opposite problem - my water plants grow way too much, and I have to weed them out.

We are in The Colony...not very close to you, maybe 50 miles from Fort Worth...but we are moving to Granbury on June first. That's a lot closer...I think!

I love Granbury. It's a lovely area(the area I've seen) Wouldn't mind living there. Wouldn't mind living in Bas co either. Bev,I'll come if you give me very,very detailed directions!!PJ

I know there are lots of Garden Webbers that love to get together in that area and I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone! There are an abundance of little nurseries scattered all around Hood and Johnson counties. We've been looking around for a couple months now and I even found a feed store on hwy 377 to get a stock tank for my water lilies and goldfish! I just can't wait to have this move in our past, if you get my meaning. We've been living in limbo land with most of our stuff packed and ready to go.

PJ, I'll bring extra plants for you and keep them until we can get together.

LOL! Honest to God I don't even know if I should turn right or left on 377. I remember directions with some of the turns switched. Unless I'm walking/hiking. Odd no?
I can hike deep into the mountains and be OK. If I drive somewhere it'll take me 6-7 times to remember how to get there without directions.PJ

What kind of plants do you have, PJ? Are they at the correct depth for that plant? Most of them don't really care all that much, but some do. It is really sad to see your pickerel reed with the leaf rotted off and a brown stump standing there in it's place. LOL Also, if it is a shade plant, it will look dreadful in the sun. I have some water hyacinth in the pond right now that is almost to the 'gotta get it moved' stage, as it looks bad. But I need it for shade and hiding places for my fish, so I alternate it. I have lots more that is real pretty and dark green in a tank in the shade, I just have to move this there, and vise versa.

Plus, it could be that my fish eating the roots of the WH are what are making it look bad. You can hear them crunching them!

I mostly have the same problem as a couple of others have said. I have to weed them out and thin them. They do like to multiply!

My plants are no more than a couple inches below the surface in pots. Only the Pickerel Weed is pouting but I think it might be coming around. The base of the plant isn't mushy. The Canna,hardy lily,horse tail reed& the Elephant ears are coming around great. The L.Iris and Spiderwort are in a slow start. With a name like Pickerel WEED you'd think it'd be the best off! PJ

LOL, that is why I refer to my pickerel as a 'reed'. It hates to be called a weed. So I fudge a bit.

It is happy in deep water, or shallow, as far as I can tell. Mine have not bloomed yet this year, but they are multiplying like crazy. This from something we can go and dig from any ditch in the county. Why can't the rare and expensive things do that?

I bought a couple of WM's $6.00 water lilies this year and threw them in the deep end of the pond. They are doing fantastic! I am so surprised! They are blooming and blooming! How long do they bloom? Does anyone know? Don't tell me if they are soon to stop. They are just great!
