Help Me Pick One More Tomato!

I have room to grow one more tomato (2 plants of that tomato.) I have the seeds for all of the below. Out of this list which one would you pick & why? A few factors that may help: I'm in zone 5; I usually have problems with blight (hits some time between mid August to Mid September); I am a canner (make my own salsa & sauces.)

Here's the list:

Big Beef

Black from Tula

Black Krim

Caspian Pink

Celebrity

Fireball

Stump of the World

I have picked out 24 tomatoes to grow already. I think I have a good mix of cherry, paste, black, red, yellow & pinks, etc.

You should post the rest of your grow list to help us make a choice. At first glance I would pick Black Sea Man, but seeing the rest of the list might change that.

Thank you everyone for your great insight. I'm still fairly new to gardening, but I'm learning so much from all you you and the GardenWeb community. Yes, I am pretty set on having a White Edens in my garden... although I may live to regret it based on Hoovb's experience. Hoovb: I'm hoping and praying my Edens won't suffer the same fate as yours did. So far they're done pretty well, although I've only had it since September. This morning, I went out and counted 20+ large buds on the Eden I planted in September... I would have had more, had I not dug it up and transplanted it with too small of a root ball earlier this spring. Kippy-the-Hippy: I'm thinking about planting it along with a White Climbing Iceberg rose together in the front of my house, trained up and over the garage. Have any of you grown two climbing roses together? I heard of people growing fruit trees in the same hole, I wonder if I could do the same with two climbing roses? I will look into the Somebreuil rose. I'm intrigued. I've never been to Descanso Gardens, is that off PCH? I think I've heard of it. Maybe I will have to grow a Sombrieuil with an Eden in my backyard.

Tisha, You don't like tomatoes? Oh, good heavens, what are we going to do with you? Lynn, Don't be jealous. Your day is coming and one day you'll get to post "I picked the first ripe tomato today!" and we'll all be so thrilled for you. And, you wouldn't be jealous if you knew how many nights I pushed, pulled, carried and dragged those containers into the garage/barn (unheated, but insulated) to protect them from cold weather. And, then, of course in the morning I had to take them all back outside again. It's not so bad with the 3 and 5 gallon pots, but after dragging in the 5 that are in really big containers (those huge plastic tubs that Sweet Feed or something similar comes in), I swore I'd never plant early tomatoes in containers again. Of, course, I always get over that frustration when the cold temperatures depart, and by the following February I am ready to plant my containers again. Sharon, Spring is (more-or-less) here in Love County, so it should be making its way up there pretty quickly now. I've noticed that my in-the-ground tomatoes are entering their rapid growth period that always hits in May (sometimes in mid-April in a warm spring). And, all of you, remember that these are the tomatoes in containers that have been planted since early March and also sit on a concrete slab (for heat gain) and also get taken in at night if it is cold. My in-the-ground tomatoes are just as cold and wet and miserable as everyone else's. The tallest are only about 30" tall, and some are quite a bit smaller than that. I have some blooms and some tiny tomatoes, but nothing to get excited about. The in-the-ground tomatoes are definitely going to be very late for me this year. Usually I have ripe ones by Memorial Day, but don't think I will this year. I hope all of y'all get your first ripe ones as soon as possible, but Mother Nature really isn't cooperating with us at all. Dawn

Thanks for all the responses! I don't know why, but I never get emails telling me I have responses - even though I've double-checked my settings here... anyhow, I appreciate all the names to check out. Someone steered me to San Marzano for paste, I think I'll give that a try. I've read a lot of negative reviews on Costoluto Genovese, that's one I almost ordered too. I hope it works out for you! I'll look up Momotaro tonight, too. I've decided against Mortgage Lifter, Beefsteak, and Bradley based on many reviews I've read today, but I have to say I like the sound of Giant Belgium, so that's staying on the list for now. I'm going to see if I can find out from my grocer what I've been buying lately, I really love the taste of it. I'm 99% sure they don't know and they won't tell me the source though. of course I don't know what conditions they were grown in, either... I found the "tomatoes for 2013" thread earlier and I'm going to give it another good look-over. I need to order my seeds by the end of next week to get going so I don't have much time left! lol Thanks everyone : )

Thanks for those suggestions! Will take a look this week. This is the pair the guy at Lowes recommended. Only 12 V though, but he really likes them. I'm accustomed to borrowing from my Mom or Dad, who can tackle just about anything, so I'm looking for one that doesn't feel like a kiddie toy compared to serious tools. I'm not sure what the volts relate to - torque capability? Drill speed? Is there a certain combination of minimum ratings to look for? Features? I'd really like to learn enough about the specs to go play with some displays and be able to make a decision based on how things feel once I've found some models that fit the bill. Unfortunately being a young female shopping for tools makes it hard at times to get the most helpful recommendations in person. Some guy tried to help me find a tool box after i spent a good amount of time examining the options by telling me they had a pink one (which wasn't even like the ones I was looking at), before he even knew what I wanted it for! After seeing your whole list i'm going to stick with Black Sea Man, if for no other reason than because they look so unusual when you cut them in half.

I know what your thinking, I have 25 listed! Two are definitely going in containers and won't be in the main garden.

Try Kellogg's Breakfast. Big yellow/orange maters.

Stump of the World. Might not be the biggest producer but the taste is up there with the best. That's my experience anyway.

I would consider Kellogg's Breakfast or Chapman. Both great producers and great taste for me. JMO

Well, if I can go off of your list, I couldn't agree more with the Chapman recommendation above. That one is fantastic.

However, since you asked to pick one off your current list, I'd go with Big Beef over Black Krim for the sole reason that they are useful for canning. With all of the various shapes, colors and sizes you have on your list, I think you'll probably welcome a few medium sized, blemish free, easy to peel red tomatoes during canning season.

(By the way, Chapman would fill all of those needs and be superior in pretty much every way to Big Beef. If it's too late for you to obtain some seeds this year, I would recommend it for next year.)

My feeling exactly about Chapman. It was one I only planted because Carolyn seemed to mention it regularly. Was a real surprise and some of those I expected more from failed. It will be one that is in my garden every year. Not sure what more you would want from a red tomato.

I thought I'd fill you in on what my choice(s) were. I did not plant Black Prince as planned, but did plant Black Sea Man. I did *cheat* and plant a couple more so Big Beef (I only had two seeds left) and Kellog's Breakfast (hurray, I received in a swap after I had originally posted this)were the big winners.

I'm guessing you got alot of those seeds from me. The list matches my tomato layout 75-80%%.

It says 3-4' bush but that is not correct.
Per the package, it's an indeterminate.
It can grow gi-normous. 15' under good conditions.
Not sure how well it does in containers.
