Anyone interested in a trade for a mulberry tree?

I have a few nice sized rooted mulberry cuttings. The type I have are Shangri-la, and Silk hope. These were rooted last season and are probably about 5ft tall so I would have to prune them in order to ship. I'd be willing to trade for pretty much any tropical fruit that I don't already have.

Could you tell me a sentence or two about the mulberries you mention? I am growing Pakastani and someone recently gave me a cutting of Tice I think it is. The cutting is now about 4 feet tall. I don't think I've tasted Tice. The Pakastani I got from the Fruit and Spice Park and I don't think I have ever had a better one. It is 3 inches long and very sweet...even when not completely purple.

I have never traded for seed, always rather have a plant. I have tried for a long time to get the Bird of Paradis tree/shrub. How long does it take for the seed to sprout, and make a plant? Little John, I am not going to HOS this year. I'll ask someone I met last year for Medlars for you. There were 4-5 varieties last year, they should be back again. I have a Sasafras growing and I saved it in case you want one. They are native here. I am going to Florida for fruit tasting in May and Maine for blueberry festival in August. I would like to swing over to Sebastopol for a fruit walk in Andy Marianis orchard. Jasonlotp, San Martin Mulberry was found growing west of LA if I remember right. Probably both local seedling selections.

Andrew, I bought a Lurline cutting in 2006, it was 9 tips and about 3ft long. The first 2 yrs it grew like a weed, then one spring it developed Blacktip for the first time and got it every spring since. I finally have a huge inflo on only one branch. If my Lurline dies or has other issues I will not replace it as it is problematic. Hope this helps

It's grafted. I bought it from Jene's tropicals about a year and a half ago. It is really doing well and is one of my few mangoes that don't seem to get any black mold. I was thinking of chopping it down to just a couple feet, but I just can't make myself do it. It has a nice thick trunk. If you want it we could always just trade for some fruit when I am down there if you don't have any plants to trade.

Harry I bought the shangri-la =because it is supposed to do well in FL. I have not tasted it but I have read good reviews about it. Here is what one site I found said about it. "Originated in Naples, Fla. Large, black fruit. Good mulberry for the Deep South and other areas. Hardy in U.S.D.A. Zones 7-9. Tree has very large, heart-shaped leaves."

I don't remember much about the Silk hope aside from it being a cross between a black and white variety (I think). I bought it because the nursey said it was one of the best types they carried. I will look for some more info on it. I could bring you one of each when I come down if you would like them.

All I could find on the Silk Hope was this: "Fruit similar to Illinois everbearing but the tree is better suited to the Southeast."
That is probably why I bought it.

Found this on the Silk Hope Mulberry:

SILK HOPE MULBERRY (Morus alba x M. rubra)
Similar to Illinois Everbearing, but not as precocious, productive, not as long a bearing season. However, the fruit is of excellent quality & is slightly larger than Illinois. Better adapted to humid Southeastern states. North Carolina selection by A. J. Bullard. Zone 5-9.

Excalibur has a new dwarf everbearing mulberry that bears larger fruit than the regular everbearing around 1-1.5 inches. It should be available later on this year if either of you are interested. I had the fruit from it last year and they were pretty good.

Harry, The leaves on my silk hope don't look anything like the ones in your pic. I am pretty confident about my source for the tree. I am wondering if the site you got that from may have just used a generic photo?
