Anyone interested in a philippine mango tree for trade? (FL)

I have a big philippine mango that I am looking to get rid of. It's about 6 or 7 feet tall right now. It's just way too vigorous for me to keep small enough for the greenhouse in the winter. I would like to trade that for something that can be kept a little more in check. Maybe a different mango or an atemoya but I am open to anything that has a good fruit.

This is way too big for shipping, but I will be heading down to south fl in the next month or so and we could meet up to do the trade.

It's grafted. I bought it from Jene's tropicals about a year and a half ago. It is really doing well and is one of my few mangoes that don't seem to get any black mold. I was thinking of chopping it down to just a couple feet, but I just can't make myself do it. It has a nice thick trunk.

If you want it we could always just trade for some fruit when I am down there if you don't have any plants to trade.

i would recommend Rosigold. julie and rosigold are the smallest trees. rosigold will have a perfectly symmetrical upright canopy at 8ft. julie grows like a bush filling out nicely about 8 feet as well. both would be perfectly full grown in a 25 gallon container with a little pruning. julie is shy, but is an extraordinary mango and worth it IMO. Rosigold are very precocious, they give fruit a month earlier than almost every other variety. i think this may be beneficial to you as the fruit take less time from bloom to ripe. Nam Doc Mai is not a condo mango, it is a medium tree. i would grow it in at least a 45 gallon container and even then the trunk will become wider than the condo mangos and will be more top heavy. one reason Pine Island will not recommend Julie is because they stopped growing and propagating it after their trees died back of fungal problems. i personally know a dozen people growing Julie in south florida and while they do require minimal folier copper spraying to prevent anthracnose (black fungus), all of them enjoy their trees very much and prize the mangos they give. SPYKEs grove by me sells more Julies then any other variety fungus should not be a problem where you are.

I really can't think of anything else that I want right now. I'm sure I'll think of something eventually, but right now I am out of ideas. I guess it is a good thing but it's a little boring. If anyone has any suggestions on something interesting that I'm missing please help me out. Right now I have mangoes, Lychee's, Sugar apple, Jakfruit, white sapote, avocado, a bunch of citrus, a Ruby supreme guava that I am getting rid of at some point, Barbados cherry, Starfruit, Jaboticaba, Grumichama cherry, Rambutan, Mangosteens, dragon fruit, and Abiu.

Hi all, Sorry for the late response. I haven't logged in for quite a while. Interesting views. Mangodog, quite fascinated with the idea that it also happens to papayas, suggesting that this could be a phenomenon that happens to all fruits. Jalilu, so that explains the pico's relatively more pointed shape with reference to the carabao. Hence, the descriptive pico name. The Philippine language has many references to the spanish language. Or maybe, you're right. It could be the protrusion that happens once in a while that led to it being called the mango with the beak..hence pico :-) Thanks for your insights. Zig

How big of a pot is it in and how long has it been in the pot?

I am not sure of the post size. I would guess it is around a 10 gal. The pot is a kind of an odd shape. It's more tall than wide. I think I potted it into this pot early last fall. The tree has really taken off since going into this pot.

I'm interested, and I have a nice Atemoya to trade if you like.

I lost my big Jamaica Strawberry Tree to the cold, and that Mango tree would be perfect to replace it.

Whare are you located? I'm in Palm Beach County, but work in Stuart.
