Hey Ace, Are all of these mulberries warmer climate types? I'm wondering if they'll do ok in my zone. Ill. Everbearing seems to be the king here.

Little John they are warmer climate types. I am going to graft Pakistan and try it here on Long Island. How did the Medlars do?

They took for a bit and then pooped out. I grafted onto Hawthorn last year. This year I'm gong to try to graft them onto quince and pear rootstocks...if I get more medlar scions that is. I hope you do well with Pakistan, those berries look pretty big! Are you making the pilgrimage to the west coast again this year for scion?

Do you know anything about the San Martin cultivar? I picked some up at a scion exchange but I couldn't find any info out about the cultivar.

I looked around online after I found it at the UCD site. No info out there but at their site. San Martin is a city in CA and thats probably where the original seedling came from.

Little John, I am not going to HOS this year. I'll ask someone I met last year for Medlars for you. There were 4-5 varieties last year, they should be back again. I have a Sasafras growing and I saved it in case you want one. They are native here. I am going to Florida for fruit tasting in May and Maine for blueberry festival in August. I would like to swing over to Sebastopol for a fruit walk in Andy Marianis orchard.

Jasonlotp, San Martin Mulberry was found growing west of LA if I remember right. Probably both local seedling selections.

Hey Ace are any of your persimmons hardy here in zone 6, actually on the boundary between zones 6 & 7? I assume I can graft on to native persimmons?

I grow Pakistan mulberry here for years. They're not very cold hardy, and gets cold damage. I have it grafted high on a wild rootstock and it still grows back and bears in most years.

Red, I don't have any persimmons growing yet. The scion wood came from CRFG scion exchange and they were left over from folks that asked ahead. I haven't been too impressed with the flavor/texture of persimmons. But the asian persimmon trees around here look awesome in the autumn with the orange fruit, looks tropical.

Bass, thanks for the grafting hardiness info, how is the Pakistan flavor. Are you growing Illinois Everbearing and which is better.

I would be interested in trade with you. I have Hayashi & Fuyu, also have some very old Mulberry tree(black, very sweet berries) and we can always find something else you want. But this year it's too late, everything is leafing out already. If you create this thread end of December - beginning of January, we'll talk.
