ALLEN TO CELEBRATE A HEALTHY AND SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE APRIL 10
Full day of family activities scheduled for Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm and Connemara Meadow Preserve
ALLEN -- The public is invited to join nonprofit organizations from across Allen and throughout
North Texas who will gather April 10 at Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm and the Connemara Meadow Preserve for a daylong festival filled with outdoor activities for the entire family.
Hosted by Watters Creek, "earthfest 2010 - A Celebration of Nature, Health and Community"
will offer adults and children a chance to learn more about the wonders of nature while spending a day enjoying the great outdoors. The family friendly festival begins at 10 a.m. and features:
- dozens of booths featuring hands-on environmental activities for the entire family
- cooking demonstrations
- nature walks and bird watching
- kayaking and canoeing demonstrations
- a book signing with author, photographer, and landscape designer Rick Darke
- musical performances by area students
- presentations by the Heard Museum and the Backland Prairie Raptor Center
- and much, much more
Prior to the start of festivities, Keep Allen Beautiful will sponsor a community clean-up of
Watters Branch, the creek that flows alongside the Watters Creek lifestyle center.
The event is collaboration between ALLen Reads, Alliance for a Healthier Allen (Allen Chamber
of Commerce, ACO, Keep Allen Beautiful, Urban Extreme Nutrition, Texas Health Presbyterian
Allen, City of Allen and Allen ISD), and a community based Environmental/Ecological
Consortium (Keep Allen Beautiful, Allen Garden Club, Ecoliteracy Project, Montgomery Farm
and the Connemara Conservancy).
Earthfest 2010 is hosted by Watters Creek, a resort-style mixed-use center recently named the
Best New Shopping Center by D Home magazine that is part of the 600-acre Montgomery Farm conservation development at the southwest corner of Bethany and Central Expressway.
