Mystery Plant on Tennessee Mountain

MissSherry

My husband and I were in east Tennessee looking at mountain property this past week. We found some that we're in the process of buying now - it's SOOOO beautiful, even in winter. It's wooded, but the only things green right now are the mountain laurels, hollies and several pretty little plants that I can't identify. I'm thinking they're some type of trillium, since they have the three leaves typical of those beautiful plants, but I can't find any trilliums in my wildflower books whose leaves look like these.

Anybody know what this is?

We decided to buy this property, because of the tremendous damage done to my 5 wooded acres down here in southeast Mississippi, 35 miles from the coast. I thought when we retired here 10 years ago we'd never live anywhere else, but this is the 5th hurricane I've cleaned up after - two of the 5 were category 5's! - and I can't do this again. If we ever have another hurricane, we'll definitely build on and move to the Tennessee property, and maybe even before.

Thanks for any help you can give me about the mystery plant!

Sherry
