Fire on the mountain, trees, drought

We are almost enjoying the clear blue skies, but for the smoke blowing over us from the fires on Clinch Moutain, four miles to our west.

What's bothersome is the condition of the woodlands on Richland knobs and even some of the trees we see on the hills on the otherside of the Holston River. Lots and lots of dead leaves- masses of brown leaves way before fall leaf drop happens.

We have many acres of forests that we only see from the roads and fields and I wonder if our woods look as damaged as the woods I see in almost all directions round us.

So, I'll go water my relatively young Dogwoods.

One inch of rain last week followed a total of 2.7 inches in all of August. That's not enough with the heat we've had.

So, how do your trees look? Any forest fires elsewhere in our fair state?
