Comments (7)The cheapest thing I can think of for you to use is woodchips. Every tree trimming service is the country is looking for a place to dump their chips where they won't have to pay to dump them. Contact them and tell them where you live and see if they will bring them next time they cut in your area. I got twenty loads one time that way. They won't work with you unless you make it easy for them. Give them a map to your location. (several of them) Put a big orange stake in the ground where you want the pile and tell them where it is so they can just come by and dump without worrying about finding you and all that stuff. They will do it if you make it easy for them. One day you will come home and there will be a big ol pile of chips for you! Let them compost or just start speading them around the yard and garden....See MoreTropicals on the cheap
Comments (22)I've been checking out local garden centers for the smallest size of starter plants over the last month. So far, I have found dracaenas, ti plants and crotons at approximately $1.50 to $2.00 each. All of them have colorful, variegated foliage that should make an interesting addition to my tropicalesque beds this summer. You can also get larger sizes of many of these plants in the $5 to $10 range at Home Depot, Walmart or Lowe's. All of these will have to be gradually acclimated to the higher sun levels outside when the weather warms up. Let me know if you want some cuttings of Wandering Jew, as it grows quite freely in the underside of my greenhouse benches! Happy gardening, Dan...See Moreneed ideas for super-cheap kitchen update
Comments (37)I am in awe of the progress and the difference, kdw72697 !!! And your Little Helpers are just toooo precious! Let us know as soon as you decide what you are going to do with the track lighting, and any other changes, of course! :) THIS is my kind of Topic....anything to do with the words "Super-Cheap", and I'm there. Fantastic Suggestions throughout this topic and I'm so grateful you all posted them! Everyone who posted pics....THANK YOU! I am always on the look-out for new ideas, inspiration, anything "budget-minded" to freshen up my own home. The colors you've used, the kitchen set-up...all ideas that motivate and inspire me! Igloochic, Your home....always an inspiration at every turn...especially since I use paint and paint techniques to create something a little nicer than the norm (the 'norm' that I can't even afford!) ....I've used your home pics more than once to get me motivated. Here's my latest budget project...maybe someone else can benefit from it in their own budget-minded kitchen. Real Travertine Tile Trim was NOT in the budget but the discounted/discontinued tiles we purchased looked so nekkid without something on top (the discontinued tiles didn't have bull-nose or anything close to matching). A length of cheapy wood chair rail molding, some left-over stucco in the bag from an earlier window re-do and my paints and some good sealer..... (I DID resize these pics to make them smaller...I hope it worked!)...See MoreNeed ideas for cheap trim/moulding
Comments (6)Hi Kathy11, Do you know someone with a router? One can use that to make one's own mouldings. Must buy the wood, though, unless you have some lying around. If you don't want a wide moulding, might want to rip a piece of lumber down the middle - so it would then go twice as far. Hope that he gets it fixed up in a way that suits him (and all the others who'll live there). joyful guy...See Moreianna
