keep indeterminates or start anew

I have San Marzano Redorta tomato plants from last year (planted in clay soil), and was wondering if I should kill the plant and start from new seeds or keep them growing.

I didn't get a good yield last year as I had many flower drop offs and leaves looking droopy, which would only perk up after heavy watering. I normally only water every 5 days, about 1/2 gallon of water (sometimes mixed with fish/seaweed fertilizer).

This year I plan to grow more Redortas along with Momotaro, Opalka, and Brandywine Suddith. I have always had problems with tomatoes drying out whenever I plant in containers and heard that adding a little bit of magnesium sulfate would encourage tomato plants to sustain with less water (not sure if there is any truth to this).

So I actually have two questions:

1. Should I start from new seeds or keep my year old indeterminate?

2. What can I do to keep tomatoes properly watered (if I have clay soil along with plants in containers)?
