Sandsquid, I have been thinking about hitting you up for one of your fig cuttings. My boyfriend has been after me to plant a fig tree. I have a very small yard and space is at a premium, and I don't know the first thing about a fig tree. Any suggestions?

I am starting some seeds at the end of this week, I have workmen in my house all week and I can only walk in certian places so I am waiting on them to leave.

And I recall Prickly Pear Cactus are pretty tasty as well.

Sambucus nigra cv. Purpurea - This is the old standard purple clone of Elderberry. Obtained from the North Willamette Research and Extension Center.

Purpurea is a beautiful shrub. Its leaves first emerge as green, but quickly turn a shiny purple-black for most of spring (for all of spring if they get a bit of shade). But come warm weather, they turn olive green. This is supposed to be a 'fault' in that the purple doesn't last through summer, whereas Black Beauty leaves do stay purple until autumn colors supplant the purply-black. Jim Oliphant, July 2003.

To The Top Again. Do not want to lose this post yet.

During yesterdays torrential rains, I went outside and mixed up a big batch of 50% peat and 50% vermiculite. Pulled _all_ this winter's fig cuttings out of their containers. Culled the ones not forming roots and repotted those that had root good development into individual pots. I think I ended up with about 20 potted up. These are all the "unknown variety from Covington" Checked the "new" cuttings I took three weeks ago and put into the rootrainers and still no initials forming but they are still nice and green. I know it was too early to see anything but I was hopeful.

Does anyone have any Jalapeno Plants? Would like to have some, Coming with AtokaDawn so those are the ones that we are swapping.

No jalapeno, but last week I planted up some Guadillo, "Red Chili",and Habanero seeds. Dunno if they will sprout in time.... I still have more seeds if you want some.

I will have a few jalapeno plants - kinda small though. I'll save you a couple.

I live in the Jackson, TN area and am looking for anyone who might be willing to give me a fig rooting. I can't seem to find a fig tree ANYwhere! I am trying to start a small home orchard and would love rootings/cuttings of any fruit trees...but especially want a fig.

I've got plenty of Fig cuttings rooted, it's just getting one to you is the problem.

if someone who is attending the swap can bring it to you on their way home, I'd happy to do that.

Great! Are you near Jackson, Dawn? I live in Beech Bluff but work in Jackson. I will be happy to run by your house (or meet you somewhere, whichever you prefer) to pick up the figs! Maybe one day next week after work?

I am doing raised bed vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, etc.) as well as trying to find orchard fruit cuttings. I am also trying to start a little perennial garden to attract butterflies and bees for pollination.
