I'm dreaming of white roses...

Thought I'd do some Christmas themed posts of rose pics from this past season. I'll start with the white ones. It's funny, with all the roses I have, I really don't have a whole lot of white ones, compared to other colors. But in looking thru these to decide which ones to post, I realized maybe there's a reason I don't go for the white ones so much. I don't spray (only because I don't have the time) and as you can see, the thrips really love the white roses!! Hard to find any pics with no thrips damage!

ALBA MEDILAND - at least I think that's what this one is. I won it at a rose society raffle many yrs ago, and it was just called "white groundcover." It's a giant "octopus' that roots extremely easily on its own

Victorian Lace looks like its name. I love white roses. Thanks for posting them for Christmas. I just posted a photo of my white Banks/Fortuniana mix on the discussion side, so I'll hold off.

Those whites are so pristine and beautiful! Most of the time, my white roses are chomped on by something - usually thrips! So, that is why I don't grow many and it is nice to see yours. I think that is Alba Meidland, by the way, as I had it when I lived in Nashville. It definately was a yard eater, and thorny, too! Is yours thorny?

Hi CEFreeman - what a great barn - now it just needs the Red Wings roof - LOL - there is a barn in the area that has the Wings logo on the roof - no guessing who they support. Unfortunately, I live in the city, so no barn. Your sinks would look great with Soapstone! I have the Blanco Cascade sink. It works for most items except the really large round Advantium trays won't lay flat - but I just pop them in the DW. It takes a bit of pre-planning with only one drain but I have gotten pretty good and our city will now accept table scraps and is providing a bin for it - I still need to pick up our bin. I am sure it will go under the sink and not on the counter - it is definitely not the correct color scheme for A2 (green and white! in a maize and blue town) Maybe Blanco will come up with some cool colors downstream I do have the sink grid and basket but don't keep them in the sink except when needed - grunge factor!!

Thank you so much for your responses. Your pictures and links have made me fall more in love with hickory cabinets. My DH and I are designing and building our own home. We thought we would be up and running by now but it took us a year to sell our home and another year to complete a short plat and now the winter rains will put us into next spring. To keep from going stir crazy I lurk the decorating and kitchen forums and dream dream dream. If you have been here for more than two years you may remember my delima of DH's love of rustic/cowbow style and my more Victorian/Country French farm house style. He likes iron I like crystal. He likes leather and I like silk. He hunts and I grow roses. We have coined our style "Guns and Roses"! I thought the beaded hickory in natural with open shelves and antique glass front doors would help to marry the two. To make it more of a challenge we have designed a very open floor plan. Athomewith3: How do you like your saddle seat bar stools? Are they comfy? Keaata: I love your natural hickory. What colors are you using in your home? I noticed that every picture with hickory the walls are green. I wanted to do our home in browns, gold and russet tones. I hope that won't be a problem with the natural hickory. That sounds good. I was thinking that the next post should star off with a call out to the lurkers, maybe with some of the quotes from this thread of folks who had never done this before we took it on in one of these threads. I think the lurkers have this wacky idea that everybody who posts on this thread is some uber-creative design professional, which isn't true at all (although we have some of those). Quotes: LWO: I only wish that more of the people who need design help were trying to participate. It IS a learning exercise. Or, it was conceived of that way. It's great that so many talented amateurs and pros are giving examples of "how to", but there's nothing like getting your feet wet to go swimming. Testimonials: Sochi:I had never done a mood board before the 3rd thread (1920s kitchen). I've learned quite a bit about Olioboard and Flickr since the first kitchen I posted. That alone makes these exercises worthwhile. Not only am I learning a little about design (mostly from others) but I'm also learning how to more efficiently create moodboards, navigate the web, identify where to find what I'm looking for relatively quickly, use Flickr, etc. Plus it's fun and quite addictive. I encourage everyone to try it out. cawaps:I had never put together a mood board before the Colonial Revived thread (Design Around This #2). It takes a bit of time, but if you can do a Google image search and can master the basic tips on posting photos, you can do this...I find that I am more likely to respond to other threads with pictures, since it doesn't seem like such a chore anymore, now that I have lots of practice. I've also learned not to overinvest in a particular choice. At the idea stage you can easily adopt, evaluate, replace, look for something else.

Beth, I love white roses so seeing your post brought a lot of joy to me today!

My favorites are Alba Meidiland, Cl. Sombreuil (nice yard view, too!), Mme. Hardy and especially Jose Carreras. Can you let me know how Jose Carreras is doing for you (disease resistance, re-bloom, vigor, fragrance and anything else that you think is worth telling about this rose)?

Thanks for posting, I always enjoy looking at your rose photos!

Well Renee... when you figure I have around 1700 or so roses, this is just a handful dontcha-think? LOL I didn't even post a pic of all the ones that bloomed that had ugly pics! Go ahead and add your white rose pics too!!

Snowheather... yes it's pretty darn thorny! I had to pull out a couple of the volunteers a few yrs ago, and even with thick leather gloves, the thorns went thru. The clusters make beautiful fillers in bouquets, and are really nice for bridal bouquets and arrangements.

Christina, JOSE is a really nice rose. Grows about 4ft high and maybe 3ft wide. As you might be able to tell in the pic, it can get some B/S. I don't recall it having much of a scent. The blooms last a pretty good long time.

White Masterpiece is picture perfect; I guess a Masterpiece is always rare. All your white roses look beautiful. I am glad to see the shot of SOMBREUIL, too. I think I am in too cold a climate to attempt it, though I have always thought I'd love it. Your photo confirms that!
Not counting minis, I only have ONE white rose! (How's that for rose poverty?) I love it though. Prairie Star does well in our climate. I wonder if any of you have grown Margaret Merrill? I have heard it is very fragrant. I'd love to hear some real life stories about it. Thanks for sharing!
