Your phlox will definitely bounce back. My phlox gets a free pruning every year courtesy of the deer. After the initial haircut they seem to go easier on it, and I always get a full season of blooms.

Hey, Guys- Wish I could put up pics and I do wish I could see everybody elses. What a great way to get a clearer idea of what you like and might do in your own home. But I canÂt see pics. CanÂt post them either. CanÂt see a thing! When I put my mind to something, and my "mindÂs eye", so to speak, I am pretty good at gathering adequate visual information for what I want to accomplish. I do have a pretty good memory of colors so I can picture various shades of blue, red, yellow, etc. I have more trouble when someone says "ItÂs a grayish beige with yellow tones." Beige, I get. Light beige, I get, but subtle variations are lost to me. Precision in color choices wonÂt be a goal for me. I also have always had a natural ability to arrange furniture well. That goes back to before my vision loss, but even now, if IÂm familiar with a roomÂs basic layout  doors, windows, special features -- IÂm often able to "see" ways it could be arranged. IÂm much less confident about how to find and combine furniture and accessories, because I can only do it by a very slow process. When I actually touch a piece of furniture  or a lamp, or piece of fine pottery, or basket, or whatever, I can envision it in my mind and usually have a good idea of whether it will work with another piece. Textiles and fabrics are harder. I have to go on trust. I know what I like and what looks good on me, which is where IÂd start for interior design choices, but I canÂt know for sure if someone else is understanding my description of what I am looking for. So, how might a thread like this help me? Well, IÂve never done a major renovation before. I expect that I could receive a whole scatter-shot range of responses, but there will be something in it that might further clarify my project. Oakleyok, for instance, mentioned a reading nook. ThereÂs a corner of this room with built in bookcases. With a little smart tweaking and the right comfortable chair, it could be a wonderful spot to read. I donÂt read books in print form  mine are from the Library of Congress Talking Books program, but I love to "read". I really donÂt have a spot in the house thatÂs just especially for a "good read". So, I filed that away. Sweeby took the tv out of her LR/FR. I donÂt watch much tv, but our family does occasionally congregate to watch something together. We have a LR for conversation upstairs. So far, the main way this room has been used is for tv & entertainment. I think thatÂs its purpose. One of the things IÂm hoping to get right is an upgrade of its tech access, something my contracter is good at. Whatever experiences you all share, I think theyÂll help me stay on track. This is getting too long, but here is some info about my project: My home is a 1974 psplit entry or raised ranch. The FR is on the lower level. 21 x 23 The entry, stairs to upper level, and upper landing are golden oak hardwood. Carpet in FR will go. Stairs down to FR will be finished in hardwood to match the entry. Flooring for FR will be one of the following: 1. Cheap answer. Novalis vinyl "golden oak" peal n stick. Flooring forum and some of you guys speak well of this product. I have samples, and it sure feels "cheap", but can apparently produce a pretty good wood "look". 2. Tile. Would probably still go with a wood look although not sure. Obviously a more costly approach. If I go this way, IÂd go whole hog and have a heating layer installed under the main area. The gas log fireplace is brick. Painted white and very discolored. Plan to finish in some sort of stone. Slate? Possibly granite. Hoping for something with several colorations in it, especially wanting some black element. . Old paneling has to go. Not up to code. Dry wall instead. Ceiling panels will go. Again replacing with dry wall. There is also duct work and we will have the contracter determine if that can be minimized. We suspect it can. If you guys know the kind of house IÂm talking about, then youÂll be familiar with the fact that it has a support column pretty much smack dab in the middle. ItÂs been finished before with dry wall and trim. Odd feature. IÂm planning on an area rug and strongly leaning toward a southwestern look. ThatÂs all for now. Too much, IÂm sure. Actually, the workplace issues with Amazon have to do with both the white-collar and the warehouse workers. On the white-collar side, that the "culture" of the company sometimes demands working massive numbers of hours per week is pretty typical of hi-tech (so, "stop whining" could be a reasonable response there). However, Amazon in addition has a rather nasty, Machiavellian political structure (anonymous system that encourages widespread "reporting" on colleagues, stacked-rank reviewing that mandates firing a fixed percentage each year) that, along with the long hours and fast pace and lack of amenities (Amazon does not "do" the many amenities offered by other hi-tech firms, especially the family-friendly ones), burns people out really, really fast. Retention rate is 15% after 5 years, which is the worst rate in hi-tech. There are also on record a number of cases where people were fired as a direct result of having cancer or other health problems or were forced to return to work within hours of a miscarriage or other major medical problem, and so forth. On the warehouse side, in 2011 it was reported that rather than install air conditioning in its warehouse (Lehigh Valley, PA) or slow the frenzied pace of work it demands, Amazon hired ambulances during heat waves to wait outside and haul off workers who collapsed on the line due to heat stroke, dehydration, etc. The fallen were soon replaced by new applicants in that jobs-starved area. Public outcry led to that warehouse finally being air-conditioned, but Amazon warehouse work in general is reputed to be some of the most brutal in the business. A recent Supreme Court decision addressed Amazon's practice of holding warehouse employees for up to 1/2 hour after their shifts, without pay, in order to undergo security screening. The Supreme Court upheld the practice, meaning that warehouse employees now required to "donate" up to 1/2 an hour to Amazon each day. Considering how fast Amazon burns through high-tech talent, of which there is not an infinite supply, while never yet turning an annual profit (!!!), I don't think their business model is going to be one that is sustainable long-term. "Enjoy" them while you can, folks. The story about Amazon with so many comments (5,730 so far, and still open), and to which CEO Jeff Bezos made a response, was in last Sunday's New York Times business section, not the WSJ (see http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/16/technology/inside-amazon-wrestling-big-ideas-in-a-bruising-workplace.html?ref=business.)
