Thanks raimeiken, glad you like the amaryllis. I got it as a single radish-sized bulb in 2000. It's actually in a large pot although you can't see it from the pics, I just noticed. I've split it several times and love to share it out. It's slow to get established but once it settles in it just grow and blooms and grows and blooms. Awesome new pics, Kevin--you grow a lot of really great plants. I love all of the brickwork too. Nice captions/narrative too. Thanks for taking the time to post all of the pics! Just for fun, here's a quick pic along the east side of the house: And a fun six-pointed stapelia seedling from my hand pollination of stapelias (S. grandiflora x S. gigantea). It's not super unusual to get an occasional 6 pointed flower instead of the usual 5 pointed ones, but it's still fun when it happens. Some leaf lettuce seedlings, and ferociously-blooming "Mexican heather" (Cuphea hyssopifolia) along with some I'itoi bunching onions in my little round veggie bed. Alexa and janetpetiole... you both have a very sharp eye! For Alexa, yes, that is Spring Fling in the 3rd picture, 3 o'clock position. It is the only one with a ruffled edge in that area, and it really stands out... And for janetpetiole, yes, I have a little dwarf garden in the top right of some of the photos (it is a trough I made at hosta college last year.) Actually, you can see in the 2006 picture, the dwarf cedar is nice and green, but in the 2007 pictures, you can see it is reddish/brown because it died over the winter... I am planning to take it out sometime soon. There is a tiny dwarf hosta in there too... Masquerade... and the gnome which resided there last year is still inside and hasn't made his way out there yet! Phil... you are correct about not being able to appreciate the true beauty of a hosta until it matures for a few years. Spring Fling was not much to look at in 2005, but now in 2007 it is one of my favorites. It's finally starting to look like those hosta library pictures... And Janice... Jo, While there is something about the tree's leaves that seems familiar, I don't know what it is and don't think I've seen them here. That's not unusual though as your soil (including soil pH) and rainfall in NE OK is quite different from mine here in SC OK and y'all have a lot of trees that will grow there and which do not seem to grow here. The tree I'm familiar with that has similar leaves and fruit is the Carolina Linden and that's one possibility but I'm only guessing because I've never seen a Linden tree growing here in my part of Oklahoma. Have you noticed what sort of blooms form? Small ones? Showy ones? White? Pink? Purple? Fragrant? And, if you have noticed the blooms that eventually give rise to the fruit, do you know which month the flowers bloom? Also, do the little fruits stay green or do they mature to another color in late fall or winter? Finally, if you cut into a fruit does it have seeds. How many? What color are they?
