What have you made your trellis's from? Pics?

What have you made your trellis's from? New this year and opened to any ideas. Hope to have tomatoes, pumpkins(mainly for the leaves) and birdhouse gourds.

This year we just put wire fencing over the top of the wood fence to give the peas and cukes something to grab hold of. Last year, my DH made this trellis out of left over fencing material. I think he did a great job, and the pumpkins grew up it with some training, but it took up too much space, and my garden is so tiny, I decided not to use it this year. The other responses you got are probably a better way to go if you need something freestanding though. Bonnie

Twomonths, yep, those are bear feet stepping stones! I love bears! We live in a rural area called Bear Creek Crossing. The creek that runs through our property is Bear Creek. My class of students is called "The Grizzlies"! We even design our own class t-shirt every year with a grizzly on it. When we moved into our Indiana lake house in 1976, there was a huge iron bell on a post in the front yard. It was original to the house, which was built in 1930. We used it to call kids home from neighbors, in from the boat, and to signal approval to the decorated boats in the July 4th Flotilla. The first picture I took in that house was my DH lifting our 4-year old son up to ring the bell. When we decided to move to Tennessee to be near (next door, in fact) to our two daughters, I insisted we take down the bell and bring it along. It took 5 men several hours to get it down, but it's here, in storage, and will be outside the kids' entrance to our new home. Can't take pics now, but maybe someday! Incidentally, when we tore down the 1930 house in 2001 and rebuilt, we used the rough-sawn cedar from the outside of the old house to line the screened porch. It took about 15 coats of paint to get it sealed and smooth enough to be interior siding. I loved reusing it!

After pricing metal conduit versus galvanized steel, my wife and I decided galvanized steel was not much more in cost, and would be indestructible. So we had 10-foot lengths of 1/2" galvanized steel pipe cut into 6-foot and 4-foot lengths and then threaded at Home Depot. Got the corners and tees, made a trellis 8 feet long and 6 feet tall at the edge of our 4x8 box. The trellis has two 4-foot horizontal bars supported by 3 6-foot vertical bars. I hope that's clear enough. I had 64-inch pieces of rebar laying around the house, cut those in half, hammered them halfway (16 inches) into the ground, with 16 inches sticking up, and placed the vertical pipes over that, and used pipe straps to secure the pipe to the box. Nothing will take these down, even if we decide to do watermelons some day.

Home Depot has remesh (concrete reinforcing mesh) in 40" x ~7' panels for about $4 each. I use these at north end of each my 3' x 12' raised beds, secured to 2x2 posts sunk about a foot into the ground and screwed to the bed frame for a little extra support. The wire is very strong, welded mesh and can support anything short of giant pumpkins. Plus, it rusts quickly to nice neutral brown/orange that vanishes into the background when not covered with plants.

I made mt pea trellis by power stapling chicken wire to 1x2 8' boards. I'll be using concrete mesh, too, for my squash, melons, and gourds.
