Back Garden Shots - 3rd Set

Hi again, This will be the last set of the back garden for a while and will move on to other pictures. Boy some are bright, I did not mean to have such garish anuals this year, but the begonias and petunias I prefer to get, they did not have in the quantity I needed. Hope next year I can get the ones I prefer.

After losing a lot of my geraniums a few years ago, I am building up again the stock that I need. Fortunately I did not loose these large salmon coloured ones which I really like.

This is why the deer are still happy here, during the season they have been getting a daily schmorg of rose heads, set besides a compost pile for them. They hang around and wait for it.

I could not resist this last one of the Thanksgiving dinner roses, taken before the guests arrived. The smell was devine.

Can I come to your house and just sit and stare. I'll stay out of your way and you wouldn't even know I was there. Honestly. You have an absolutely gorgeous back yard.

Oh how nice you are. Ingrid, I have admired the lovely photos of your garden, thank you for your comments. There is one bush in my little garden that I am watching for a couple of years to see if it is staying. Thank you Jennie, I like to see a garden instead of just close-ups...but I love them to. Thanks Jeff. The fence came in sections from Lowe's I paint everything the same mossy green color. It was black originally. Rosefolly, I appreciate the kind comments from someone with so much knowledge...the trees are quite mature. The background was recently marred by Alabama Power deciding that a lush fig tree posed some danger to them. that's what caused the weird mess on the right corner. (fig trees are tough. It's regrowing.) kay

Thanks everyone:) Hi Mary :) As far as Monarda is concerned I just belief M. didyma and most of it's cultivars are most susceptible to infection. Spraying plants with plain ol' water can aid in the prevention of the spores ability to germinate and often kills them, however it's hard to keep up trying to keep the leaves wet and doing so could also lead to other fungal issues that flourish with free moisture...especially at night or in humid climates, ect.; Botrytis, Downy Mildew, ect. Didn't even realize the Hollyhock flower was in that picture! Actually I only had a handful of about 30-40 Hollyhocks that looked worth a damn....the grasshoppers came in droves this year! The earwigs also did a fare share of destruction this year on these and several other plants as well. Today I noticed several earwigs hiding within the Yvonne's Salvia flowers and sunflowers...good grief! Tiffy, I'd be happy to save seeds for the M. fistulosa...this is just the common prairie species native to my home state of North Dakota as well as S. Dakota and Nebraska. I'm pretty sure it's also native to MB, SK, AB and ON. Seeds are ready to harvest in October. Might have to remind me when it's gets to be that time :)) Karen, Sure hope to bite into some tomatoes soon. My mouth waters every time I walk by LOL! I wonder how will I know when the Cherokee Green are ripe? I guess it will be by feel huh? Regarding fungal or bacterial infection of leaves; whatever it is if it's not severe you can remove and properly discard infected leaves....when dry...never wet. I'm sure you are already mulching beneath plants to prevent soil splashing :) Some more Hollyhocks that didn't look too bad. This giant red one had to come down after several days of rain/wind...my hummingbirds weren't too happy 'bout that LOL! It's ok though there's plenty others they visit....can't believe how much them go for the blue and purple larkspur! Here it was on July 8th...a monster ....again on the 14th... close up... Some hollyhocks in front on July 30th...

rollinrockell, I had the same problem the last two year. I now have all my seed trays marked using a paint pen and /or duct tape. I keep a chart of what is planted in each "6pack" tray. It seems to be helping. I pre-made some markers for the garden with white plastic spoons and paint pens too. Hoping I don't have any "mystery" plants this year.

Sooooo nice Pauline. I'm with minsue....love to come and stay awhile. Those roses in the arrangement are GORGEOUS. I love to bring them inside too. Just wish they would last longer! Thanks again for sharing your beautiful part of the world. April

It just doesn't get any better than this. Stunning as usual. Those dang deer are so cute but such a pain. Sorry you lost some of your geraniums. Please post as much as you wish. Thanks for sharing, Judy

Hi Pauline, your garden is spectacular, just beautiful! How clever of you to set up a rose-feeding station for Bambi. I love your silver TG flower bowl in the last photo--it is stunning--now am wondering what varieties you have in there. Would not mind you sharing more pix, at all. :) Becky

Becky - I will get my thinking cap on here. Most of the reds are L.D.Braithwaite, there are a couple of Pink Peace, Valentine Heart, Federik Mistral, Tamora, St Swithun, Margaret Merrill, Abe Darby, Brother Cadfael, Heritage and pretty Jessica, Probably some different ones on the other side. There were at least four dozen roses in that bowl. Becky, what do you mean by TG flower bowl please.???

It just dawned on me that your Thanksgiving is earlier, otherwise I'm saying to myself why does Pauline have roses for Thanksgiving and I don't! That's a lovely table Pauline. I still don't know how you find the time and energy to care for all those plants.
Love the deer caught eating roses and thanks for not hating it.

Carla, Canadian Thanksgiving was last weekend. We had dinner on Sunday instead of the Monday. Yum, turkey was good and you still have YOURS to look forward to.:

Wonderful bold bright washes of color everywhere Pauline, I love your gardens! It's all so beautiful and so neat and orderly, no weeds in your gardens. I did love the shot of the deer eating the rose blooms though, that was thoughtful of you to fill them up and maybe they won't come on in:) I'm sure they appreciated the extra bounty.
Thanks for showing us so much, I'm sure you have other areas you haven't covered. Maybe when winter hits and you're not so busy you'll catch us with some blooms and bush pics:) That'd be a treat too:)

I'm glad your holiday was such a treat with a gorgeous center piece like you had. As warm as it is here, I may still be able yet to have such myself.
