Need 'send me an email' option put back into registration form.

Lots of newbies on Houseplant Forum (and most likely all the others) don't have this in their profile.

Checking the "Register Here" form I see there is no longer a mention (or option) to get email from members through GW.

I wanted to give requested info to someone half way through a thread, (not the OP) who is unlikely to ever return to that thread. "Send me an email" would have insured they got the info. Sandy

I see what you mean...nothing on that form b4 hitting submit. I wonder if that might take you to a next page or something. I did not try it...not having an 'extra' email addy to try my theory.

My guess is that after clicking submit there is something else to fill out...if one chooses to. I to see lots of newbies with no email link...but I also see them too with no email link but they do have a garden zone or state abbreviation behind their name.

Here is my 'canned' reply to a lot of newbie traders not set up right.

I thought you might like to know that there is no way to email you they way your preferences are set.

I suggest you go to the bottom of any page here and click on 'Member Pages'.
then Edit Preferences.
Then using the drop down box, set it to show your email addy to Members only.
then check the box to allow others to email you via the forms here at GW. That will place a link on your member page so folks can reach you.

You might also want to (while you are there) fill in your gardening zone, and your state abbreviation.

I for one (and some others too)prefer to trade some things (plants anyway) with members that are maybe 400 miles away, as opposed to 1000-2000 or more. Often if I can't tell where someone is located, I just don't reply to threads started by traders....rather than turning someone down later.

Chemo, well it seems as though hitting submit should be the end of it but your theory got me curious. Anything's possible lately, even if it doesn't make sense--especially if computers are involved.

So I used my broadband email acct. (which I hate and never use) to register as a member. Two emails came from GW. First one: Welcome to GW. Save this email and use this link to edit your profile.
Second one: Follow link to confirm.

The first one led to the edit page you posted about. (Good idea, by the way. I will use it. Thanks.) But it doesn't seem anyone is actually going there to edit because they have no indication there is more to do there.

As far as the zone & state info, that came up empty the first time I signed in as breen2, so breen2's zone is confusion.

Still think registration needs to be reworked. Sandy

Advertising gives us a free forum. Cost of doing business and if one doesn't like the ads, there are other forums. Proofreading and the "preview message" can catch most errors and those that are missed, usually aren't all that serious and can be downright funny sometimes. Off topic posts can add life and humour to an otherwise tedious subject and is often called, "having a conversation". GW's SC&M is probably one of the most popular focused forums there is. The number of posts and speed at which the pages advance is proof of that. If one checks out the member page of the OP, one will find he is no longer with us. Seems he/she went a little, um, overboard, shall we say. Some other multiple personalities were also deleted that may or may not have been related. I agree, no apology was necessary. Lloyd P.S. Hey everyone! Here are detailed instructions on how to build a daylily box. My hat is off to the Kinnebrews--they showed us how to do this. We followed their instructions to a "T". My husband swears that it would take a front-loader to destroy and remove these boxes when we decide to move. Hope we never do! BUILDING A DAYLILY BOX Before starting construction of your daylily box, draft a written plan to make it easy to determine the supplies you need. Determine the size of box you want to build. SUPPLIES: My husband and I used pressure treated 2x10s for construction. All the cuts were done at LoweÂs at no charge when we purchased the lumber. Stainless screws arenÂt necessary when you donÂt live near the beach, but they will prevent rust streaks. We used Â¾" #8 rounded head sheet metal screws that fit snug against the metal brackets that were used for reinforcement. We also used 3" tapered stainless sheet metal screws to secure the corners plus Â¼"x3.5" lag bolts. In this project, 3" #10 screws were used for smaller boxes and 3" #12 screws were used for larger boxes. The Â¼" lag bolts are available in galvanized or stainless. Lag bolts should be countersunk. Using one of these with a couple of 3" screws should keep the corners from splitting and separating. (Nails can be used but will work their way out and allow the corners to spread.) To form the bottom of the box, commercial grade (4.1 oz weight) woven ground cloth provides a strong, yet permeable barrier. Attach it to the lower edge of the box with u-shaped galvanized poultry staples (they look like u-shaped nails). This ground cloth is usually available from stone vendorsÂpeople who sell a large volume of stone for walls, walks, etc. There is a place here in Central Florida (in Bunnell) that sells it by the foot. It comes in 3, 4 and 6 foot widths. Ground cloth is the only bottom material you will need if you set the box on the ground. For true raised beds, box bottoms are covered with ground cloth which is supported with hog fencing. Available at LoweÂs, we used galvanized 14 ga welded fence that is 48" wide and 50 ft long. It cost us $29.86/roll. We used poultry staples to secure the ground cloth and then more poultry staples to attach the fencing. After the fencing is secured, pressure treated 2x4Âs or 2x6Âs are attached across the bottom of the box to tie box walls together and to provide support when the box is set on top of concrete blocks. Again, we used 3" screws to attach the 2x4Âs. CONSTRUCTION: A rectangular box is very basic. We make our beds no more than 4 ft. wide so I can reach to the center of the box when I plant. Screws and lag bolts secure the corners and corner reinforcement brackets from LoweÂs add rigidity and strength. Pressure-treated wood is heavy and usually wet (it clogs up the drill bit!). Be sure to use a metal reinforcement near the inside bottom corner because soil is heavy and it causes a strong outward force. Tops and bottom corners should be reinforced with "rigid tie angles". All braces and reinforcements should be secured with Â¾" #8 round head sheet metal screws. If you want to make angular and odd shaped boxes (like I did) the reinforcements are different than they are for square corners. When you box is complete, flip it over. If you intend to set the box on the ground, your last step will be to attach ground cloth to the box with poultry staples. If you intend to raise your box, attach the ground cloth, welded fencing (described above) and wood support s before turning the box right-side-up and placing it on concrete blocks. At this point, you are ready to fill the box and plant it!

Thanks to #32 Sheila Taylor for registering. Guys imagine if you were having a dinner party at your house and sent out invitations to 150+ guests and only 32 bothered to RSVP but you knew that there was probably a good chance that at least four times that many were going to come. What if all those people were coming anyway without sending their RSVP and they were coming with high expectations and you were the only one responsible for the entire gig? How would you prepare? How would you feel? What would you do? Well welcome to my world four months out of the year! I'm not going to plead anymore or mention it again because I'm just simply fed-up and sick of doing it. ItÂs ridiculous to have to beg grown adults to take 30 seconds out of their lives to register for a free event that is put on for their benefit. I've requested help and only received a total of EIGHT people that have responded to my pleas. If you don't have any more respect for me or compassion for what I'm trying to do for you than that...fine. Obviously nobody seems to have the vaguest concept or care about the time, effort and planning that it takes to pull this off. Folks complain that I run a loose ship and need to have the event be more organized but nobody wants to respond to my need for assistance to help make it more organized! This event is for YOU! You're only going to get out of it what YOU put into it so if you do nothing Â make sure that you expect nothing in return. Sorry if that sounds harsh or offends anyone but it is what it is. The expectations that have been put on Jan, Mona and me are unrealistic if YOU donÂt help!!! As much as we want to do, there is only so much one person can do to organize an event of this magnitude twice a year. As I've said before, this is my last MTPS as Director so you won't have to put up with me, my unrealistic requests or my vents any longer. There will be a changing of the guard for the Fall swap and I'll make that announcement on May 16th as my last official act. For the most part I have loved holding this position and hosting the last dozen MTPS; I only hope that you will be more responsive to the needs of your new Director. Sorry that IÂve vented my frustrations but thatÂs about all I have left at this point so itÂs good thing that IÂm a lame-duck Director. For those that have been responsible, thoughtful and courteous enough to register and offer to help you have my deepest heartfelt thanks. For the ones that I've always been able to count on - you guys have a loyal and devoted friend for life!

@Hollysprings- good point. I guess, to me, the wording choices seemed condescending and not contributory to an open discussion. We've actually had both a realtor and an appraiser out. They both came up with the same figure, which was actually a little higher than what I was expecting, so that was nice! However, I'm completely aware that this doesn't mean that it will sell for that.....or that the buyer's appraiser will come up with the same value. We called several realtors up and told them that we were going to attempt FSBO for a few months and would like to see if anyone wanted to help us out with pricing. I got a few calls back, and we finally picked a very successful local realtor. She came out and looked at the house, gave me FSBO advice and sent me my market value when she had it ready. She thought we wouldn't have any problem selling it. If, of course, we can't sell it, we'll be calling her up to employ her services. I don't feel like she was artificially inflating the price just so I would use her (or fail at FSBO). She's one of Dave Ramsey's ELPs, so she has a reputation to protect. And when the appraiser came back with the same figure, I felt confident with the amount. (One was not aware of the other.) I also really enjoy following the local market and take extra notice of what's selling and what's not. I am a little worried about having the sign in the yard too long. But I'm a little worried about LOTS of things! :) I guess I feel like, if we fail, we can just stay put for a few more months and then list it with our realtor. Hopefully by then, there will be a new set of buyers who won't remember our first attempt. And, we're not putting it on the MLS for our FSBO, so it won't show up with a ton of DOM. BUT, I hope even more, we'll sell it quickly and won't have to worry about this scenario!

breen2's zone...confusion....LMAO...just noticed it behind your name in your post above.

Sandy...here is an interesting tidbit too.

I just went to breen2's member page. There is no link to email breen2.

But...did you know if I click on breen2's journal>Send breen2 an email>...I can then see your email addy @rochester.rr.com. If I click on the email addy, it will then send from Outlook Express...which I don't even use...so I just copy the addy and paste it and send from my Hotmail account.

So...your setting is set to show addy to members...BUT...the box is not checked to send email via the GW forms.

There are a lot of members set up thataway....so if they don't have a link and you want to reach them, you might try the above way...to see if you can see their addy.

Dang! Interesting that's in my journal. I never created a journal. Must happen automagically. Good to know there may be another way to email though. Its not something I would normally even do, but could be helpful like the info. I wanted to send.

That rochester.rr acct. is such a pain I never go there. Must have had to sign in about 5 times just to use it for this. Not user friendly. Thanks for the info. Sandy

Everyone has the Journal link...whether they use it or not.

It is strange that the email addy is shown there, if the member chooses to show it to members, but doesn't check the box to rec emails via GW. Probably a snaffu left over from the old Spike days.

just my guess.

I think in time newbies learn the best setting to be reachable, for trading purposes anyway.
