I'll take a stab at this question. I don't think I'd try it because woody plants need time to get those first roots established, and the February weather might hinder that. What I would do is try rooting some in sand or in water, or in that white crunchy stuff made for rooting. I'd keep them in a cool, sunny window, and I might even try a mini greenhouse effect indoors to help keep the humidity up, with a vented plastic cover of some kind. I'd transfer the ones that survived into a sheltered area outside in early spring, and maybe into bigger pots for a while until they were large enough to go into the ground.

I've added quite a few more plants since these pictures were taken, most of them at the far end where the path curves around to the north side of the garage & what I call the Burgess Slope. Folks next door are named Burgess and if you go by the property line, the slope is on their side. They're thrilled with what I've done plant-wise and he's the one who got me the process gravel for the walkway. He's friends with the guy who owns the local quarry--just drives my truck up there & gets it filled for $0.00. Name some plants, eh? Thanks for the offer! I would take you up on it, but since Trudi replied that the seeds would stay viable for a few years, I went ahead and filled out her form for requesting tomato seeds and mailed it today. I am going to grow some for my sister, my daughters, and friends too, so they won't go to waste! I am really looking forward to trying some new varieties grown from seed. Last spring I actually had some "volunteer" tomatoes come up unexpectedly and it was actually VERY FUNNY because I couldn't figure out where the tomato plants were coming from in all my hanging baskets, etc LOL Apparently I had tossed frost-killed tomatoes in my compost pile and they broke down over the winter and I forgot about them until they started growing EVERYWHERE, but unfortunately they didn't have the flavor of the parent plants - which won't happen with the heirloom varieties, I believe. Crazy Gardener: I was not able to locate a forum with the exact name you quoted. The Seed Exchange site is by default, American, and we cannot post there because we are not allowed to trade with them because of postal regulations. Similarly, we cannnot post on the Native Seed site because that also is, by default, American. If you click on the section called 'Canadian Forums' you will find a 'Canadian Garden Exchange'in which there are all Canadian postings. That's where I got some seeds last winter. Hope this helps.
