um...I had a TImotayo that didn't grow well for me out here in Palm Springs, but I know someone in La Habra that's tasted one and he didn't think they were too good. But of course one taste tester is Never to be trusted! :) I've attached an article I found and actually talked to Tim Thompson (the originator of the fruit) who lives in Camarillo I believe. He told me it was one of many cold tested (meaning unprotected over the winter) mangoes and provied to be hardier than other mangoes he had been developing. Well I see it wouldn't allow my pdf file to be downloaded - perhaps if you sent me a PM I could send it that way. Where in SoCal do you live? mangodog

I'm still kicking myself that I couldn't convince the taxi driver to take us down to BaoSheng when we visited Penang. We did visit the Tropical Spice farm and Tropical Fruit farm and ate a couple of durians from a local stand. Definitely different from the Thai durians. Much smaller. Closer to a personal sized durian than the bigger Thai varieties that get shipped here. Interesting that the variety listed as the one that they want to replace is the Chanee. Note the mark on this shipping box. Monthong (or Golden Pillow) is still the favourite, but Chanee and Kradum still do a brisk business, especially in the early season (like right now).

Excellent idea. It would be nice to see specific ideas on growing tropical fruit. Especially for those of us using winter greenhouses and are growing in sub tropical or more temperate climates. People growing tropicals in dry desert areas could learn from others' successes in dry areas, using water sources for humidity, while still being able to conserve water. etc etc..

Yes, create this forum! IÂ´m growing tropicals and ultratropicals in a semi-arid region in the tropics (7.5Â°C-47Â°C)!.

Yes, please! A tropical Fruit Forum would be fun! Plus we wouldn't be irritating the poor folks on the Tropicals Forum who prefer "pretty" tropicals over those that produce yummy fruit.(G).

We Tropical Fruit Addicts need a place of our own!

The Fruit and Orchards Forum is more for growers in colder climates. Ask an Annona question there and you get a gentle suggestion to go to the Tropical Forum..
