Add Suggestions link to Contact us Page?

A lot of people don't know the Suggestions Forum exists, and even if you know about it, it's hard to get to if you have to scroll way way down on the Garden Web Forums List.

What about adding a link to Suggestions on the "Contact Us" page? That way someone who clicks on "Contact Us", but hesitates to send an email, has another option.

Wonderful idea Claire!

If I suggest something, or see some conversations about suggesting something, I will often post linking to either the forum, or to a specific message.

I have 'Suggestions" saved to my many favorites here at GW, checking it frequently to see if I need to lend support to good suggestion.

I have gone into the archives and counted but I get the feeling that the newer 'suggestions' forum gets less traffic than the older 'comments and suggestions' forum. Does anyone else feel this?

Just my 2cents- Just curious how much everyone else on average is donating in $ to keep GW running. I haven't donated any $, so while it may be annoying to see highlighted word links and banners - I suppose a free lunch is never without some cost. I appreciate being able to post and view pictures and converse with like-minded hosta enthusiast. GW did give an option to opt-out and I thought that was very decent of them. It would be a shame to see these forums disappear due to lack of operating funds. Paul

heimert, Excellent advice to make it "expandable." That is exactly what we'll do. Very helpful - thanks. Plus, ha ha, with all of the extra stuff (pool was not planned, etc.) we are about out of money! teddas, thank you very much! The ball light is one of my favorites. I only got to see all of my lights in the catalogs and not live, so I was hoping they'd be OK. I am happy! The foyer light is the Troy La Paloma. The cabinets are Haas Monticello maple with eggshell finish and pewter glaze. They really tried hard to talk me out of that color because they said "no one has ever done that before" haha, but I thought it would go well with my slate floors and granite. The kitchen is also a bit dark, so I wanted to go with light-colored cabinets. The floors in the downstairs are Brazilian Cherry (final coat goes on next weekend) which took a LOT of time to source because I insisted on using only responsibly-harvested wood from a highly-regulated and certified company. (Those delays caused a lot of rolled eyes on the part of the builder and contractors.) Upstairs are Tiger Wood. I need to get pics of that wood - it's VERY cool! The master tile I will have to see about getting that color for you. I LOVE my master bathroom. The house we are in now was built in 1850 and the master is the size of a closet. I will not know what to do with all that space. The icing on the cake in there is the heated floors. Mmmmm. Toasty! :) Good luck with your build. It is exhausting but worth it. amyks, thank you very much. I am still pinching myself. My husband and I built our current barn ourselves, so I plan to enjoy every minute of the new one with its bells and whistles. Only two weeks to go now! I am sure the horses will not even notice as long as they get fed on time. ;)

Hotmail (Outlook) no longer asks if I want to add a contact

It was a lot of work trying to find the "where" to add a contact. But I found it (Hotmail / Outlook). Go the following link "after you have already logged into your hotmail account": https://people.live.com/ You can add your new contact here at any time, don't have to wait for an email to come in from your new contact, at the top of the page you just click on "New" and you will get the fields to add your new contact. It seems a dumb way of doing it, I couldn't find any other way. I hope this helps.

I downloaded Xenu and it does some of the things I want; but it doesn't do a page by page listing. Or at least if it does I haven't found it yet. Although even the list for the whole site is quite helpful. And it looks like Adobe GoLive would probably do it, but I'm just using Notepad and the editor on the hosting site to write the html right now - I don't want to buy anything. Since I'm working with an existing website it isn't that hard, and after I looked into it I decided it was easier to just learn html than to try to learn to use one of those big programs. One thing at a time. Thanks for the suggestions. WW

albert 135: I agree that there's less traffic now, although I don't know if that's just because few people know the forum exists, or if the system is more depersonalized.

In the old days there was a strong feeling that one person, the inimitable Spike, was in charge, and that he was watching and listening. He might ignore the issue, but we felt he was there.

Nowadays there's Josh sometimes, and Tamara sometimes, and a lot of the time we seem to be shouting into emptiness. It may be just the perception that the Gardenweb Member is now farther away from management and that suggestions won't be implemented.

This is not true, in that I've seen several suggestions recently become reality (Lighting forum, collapse feature) so there is someone there.

I guess what I'm saying is that there isn't the same feeling of "ownership" that used to exist. Of course, the "good old days" were always better....

I think it has fewer posts because it is now just Suggestions as opposed to the Suggestions and Comments as it was b4.

I'm guessing that folks have started using the Contact link to report technical difficulties, as it always should have been.

B4 the Suggestion Forum was emptied and changed, there was an awful lot of stuff that was just that...'stuff'.

It seems to me that GW has added a lot and made several good changes in the last year. I for one, like the 'What's New'...how else would I know of the many new forums, or if there was a problem?
I like being updated, and even on dial up. It doesn't annoy or slow things for me.
