Add Suggestions link to Contact us Page?

A lot of people don't know the Suggestions Forum exists, and even if you know about it, it's hard to get to if you have to scroll way way down on the Garden Web Forums List.

What about adding a link to Suggestions on the "Contact Us" page? That way someone who clicks on "Contact Us", but hesitates to send an email, has another option.

Wonderful idea Claire!

If I suggest something, or see some conversations about suggesting something, I will often post linking to either the forum, or to a specific message.

I have 'Suggestions" saved to my many favorites here at GW, checking it frequently to see if I need to lend support to good suggestion.

I have gone into the archives and counted but I get the feeling that the newer 'suggestions' forum gets less traffic than the older 'comments and suggestions' forum. Does anyone else feel this?

I was kind of hoping for a city instead of a state. I have contacts in most major cities (bonsai club office holders) & can usually pin down a source for whatever soil components you're looking for with a call or e-mail. You should be able to buy Haydite in bulk in PA, the perlite can be found through most large greenhouse/nursery operations, and anyone in the state specializing in orchid supplies will be able to supply or obtain 1/8 - 3/8 fir bark. Do you order any thing online in large amounts? No. Shipping too expensive. I have sought out reliable suppliers of bulk materials & usually pick what I need in quantity. It also helps that I have a business that allows me to buy from many suppliers that are wholesale only. Wait ... I take that back. I do order things like Messenger & some chemical products in quantity, but never heavy or bulky items because of shipping expense. You might wish to read through the link below & learn a little more about coconut by-products. Though I can't offer applause for Tcharles26's delivery, ;o) I tend to agree with his assertion & would pay heed to what's contained in the paper cited further up the thread. Paula, I didn't get around to answering in your other message, so am writing here to let you know I haven't got your pictures yet, at least not in any place it's occurred to me to look! How did you send them? I imagine you and Tom are glad to be back home! Here it's still pleasant in the early morning and we're out every day cleaning up. It's dry, in spite of a good rain a few days ago, but the garden looks considerably neater than it did three weeks ago. Melissa

There are quite a few South African search engines , however from a purists point of view they may (or may not) merely be classified as directories. Try these sites www.wolsearch.com/ www.mweb.co.za (go to the search box) www.aardvark.co.za www.marques.co.za http://charybdis.marques.co.za/zaworm.html (MarquesWorm) www.ananzi.co www.whoshoo.co.za It should be remembered that the number of South Africans with access to the net is very small , only about 2 million out of a population of about 28 million. Probably less net users than in a small American city. The bulk of our population is at a 3rd world state of development with our 1st world component still small. Our small number of net users would account for the somewhat rudimentary search engines which we currently enjoy. In my opinion marques and marques worm are the best , though none are exactly what one would rate as good. Google and to a lesser extent Altavista have done the most work in collating S.A. information and are probably the best search engines when searching for any South African sites. Garrick

Hello............it's hard to explain. I DO have a google address bar. If I use the word google in it, the entire site just freezes up. The only way I can get out of there is the reboot. If I would use a word like 'apple', it would take me to those listings.....but I can't open any of the sites, nor can I go back .........therefore, I have to reboot again. This all started a couple of months ago, when I awoke one morning to find BING, and my google was unusable. When my son tried to help..the BING was gone and the GOOGLE was useless. I hope this makes some sense to you. TIA

albert 135: I agree that there's less traffic now, although I don't know if that's just because few people know the forum exists, or if the system is more depersonalized.

In the old days there was a strong feeling that one person, the inimitable Spike, was in charge, and that he was watching and listening. He might ignore the issue, but we felt he was there.

Nowadays there's Josh sometimes, and Tamara sometimes, and a lot of the time we seem to be shouting into emptiness. It may be just the perception that the Gardenweb Member is now farther away from management and that suggestions won't be implemented.

This is not true, in that I've seen several suggestions recently become reality (Lighting forum, collapse feature) so there is someone there.

I guess what I'm saying is that there isn't the same feeling of "ownership" that used to exist. Of course, the "good old days" were always better....

I think it has fewer posts because it is now just Suggestions as opposed to the Suggestions and Comments as it was b4.

I'm guessing that folks have started using the Contact link to report technical difficulties, as it always should have been.

B4 the Suggestion Forum was emptied and changed, there was an awful lot of stuff that was just that...'stuff'.

It seems to me that GW has added a lot and made several good changes in the last year. I for one, like the 'What's New'...how else would I know of the many new forums, or if there was a problem?
I like being updated, and even on dial up. It doesn't annoy or slow things for me.
