Hi,

MS XP, IE 7

I've noticed quite a few times that when I want to send a page or link by email and click on one of those choices I get this msg: No profiles have been created. To create a new profile use the Mail icon in the control panel.

I don't want to use MS Office Outlook. Is there a way to configure this so I can use my comcast or yahoo email to send a page or link? If so, please tell me how to do it. Thank you.

Hi,
I haven't tried Snip IT? Is it hard to configure? Isn't there another way I can try first without having to download another program? I CAN change it to the yahoo email but I would prefer the comcast email and of course comcast isn't listed in the drop down box to make a selection from. Thank you.

Well, I am still one of those without my personal e-mail addy listed on my member page, but can have e-mail sent to me through GW. In the past, I have had my addy listed and have had serious problems with spam mail that comes from other forums on GW. Since I post on quite a few of the other forums on GW, I found that some of them do have their fair share of spam type posts; advertising for various websites, products etc. When my e-mail addy was available for anyone to see, these posts would pop up on these other GW forums and within an hour or so I would have the spam coming to my e-mail box about the product, site etc. Once I realized where all this spam was coming from, I removed my addy from my member page, and that was the end of the spam coming from here. Hope you all understand why I no longer have my e-mail addy available to see, but as I said, you can send it through GW and I would say that 95% of the time I don't have a problem getting it. Fran

albert 135: I agree that there's less traffic now, although I don't know if that's just because few people know the forum exists, or if the system is more depersonalized. In the old days there was a strong feeling that one person, the inimitable Spike, was in charge, and that he was watching and listening. He might ignore the issue, but we felt he was there. Nowadays there's Josh sometimes, and Tamara sometimes, and a lot of the time we seem to be shouting into emptiness. It may be just the perception that the Gardenweb Member is now farther away from management and that suggestions won't be implemented. This is not true, in that I've seen several suggestions recently become reality (Lighting forum, collapse feature) so there is someone there. I guess what I'm saying is that there isn't the same feeling of "ownership" that used to exist. Of course, the "good old days" were always better.... Claire

breen, I see what you mean...nothing on that form b4 hitting submit. I wonder if that might take you to a next page or something. I did not try it...not having an 'extra' email addy to try my theory. My guess is that after clicking submit there is something else to fill out...if one chooses to. I to see lots of newbies with no email link...but I also see them too with no email link but they do have a garden zone or state abbreviation behind their name. Here is my 'canned' reply to a lot of newbie traders not set up right. Welcome to Garden Web! I thought you might like to know that there is no way to email you they way your preferences are set. I suggest you go to the bottom of any page here and click on 'Member Pages'. then Edit Preferences. Then using the drop down box, set it to show your email addy to Members only. then check the box to allow others to email you via the forms here at GW. That will place a link on your member page so folks can reach you. You might also want to (while you are there) fill in your gardening zone, and your state abbreviation. I for one (and some others too)prefer to trade some things (plants anyway) with members that are maybe 400 miles away, as opposed to 1000-2000 or more. Often if I can't tell where someone is located, I just don't reply to threads started by traders....rather than turning someone down later. Happy gardening and trading! See this yahoo help article. Someone is either spoofing yoru email or has hacked your account. I think you are basically wanting to change your default email client correct? so that anytime you click on one of those mailto links it goes to that email client?

click Start>click set program Access and Defaults>Custom>choose default email, select the one you want, click ok.

Other than perhaps a convenience reason, is there any other reason why a simple copy and paste of a URL into the message body of your desired e-mail client not resolve your concern?

did you add comcast email to the add list on the mail option?

I have not used IE in years and I know IE 7 has some differences but I looked around and did see some responses for IE 7 using that method. But IE 7 is so flaky in a lot of areas and different than IE 6 nothing would surprise me.

No, there is no reason other than convenience why I couldn't copy and paste, I just wanted the computer to work the way I wanted it to and be able to take advantage of that feature. For now, its copy and paste or just use the Yahoo email for this function. I don't know if Snip IT will do it either.

sapphires if your comcast is not shown in the drop down list that is when you have to go to the mail option as I posted above, there you will see a space where you type in your comcast mail then you hit the add button and ok that should then add your comcast to the list.
you can add other email clients by going to start>control panel> mail icon double click to open> in the space provided put in your comcast> hit add button> ok

You could also set up Comcast mail in Outlook Express and use the default that IE wants to use.

I use netscape.net (AOL) and comcast.net. When I compose in Comcast, type in a URL and send to my Netscape email it shows up as a clickable URL, for example - after typing http://www.ebay.com. However, when I type the same when using Netscape/AOL and sending it to my Comcast email it does not work. Check this. On the Comcast email, click Preferences, then Display. That gets two choices. The second one - Choose how to display email messages -- allows you to select Display HTML in body of email. See if that works.
