Your most unique/unusual?

I wonder if you who have cameras would want to post photos of some of your most unusual/unique roses in terms of color combinations/reverses/ruffles/stripes/picoteed edges/hand-painted etc. (although I already know of Baron Girod d'Lain).

I hope this isn't too redundant a post...I tried to access a similar post from a year or so back, but the photos posted were no longer accessible.

Also, if you can tell us a little about the rose, that would be great. :0) Phyl

Phyl, I don't have too many really unusual roses. However, a few I really like that are not commonly grown are,
Lifelines, a mini climber,

and Manyo, a Japanese rose. It hasn't been a star performer for me but it is lovely when it's in bloom. It did grow a lot this year.

Snowbird is another less common rose and everyone who loves white roses should grow it, imho. It has very spindly canes, tiny buds, but it opens beautifully and never spots or gets thrip damage. Mine is in a shady location, with only midday sun.

These may not be unusual enough for this post, but they are really nice roses.

Sorry - no photo but I think the most unusual plant in my garden is Persicaria virginiana - Virginia knotweed. Yes, it's a relative of that nasty, invasive Japanese knotweed but it's both benign and native and so far has reseeded in a most well-behaved manner. It's a lovely perennial that happily grows to a moderate size in part sun, part shade and everything in between. The foliage is variegated green and white and sports a burgundy chevron on each leaf so it packs a wallop and stands out in the perennial beds, growing to about the size of astilbe or a medium hosta. It blooms in late fall but the seed-sized flowers, while numerous, are insignificant.

I've seen Nimbus and think it is a very special rose, and think it deserves to be as well known as Distant Drums. Comtesse Emmeline de Guigne' is not rare, but I rarely come across it in other gardens. I found a cream sport on a plant in a public garden and have waited 3 years for it to grow to large enough so I can propagate from it by taking 3 cuttings, and still leave a good amount of sporting section upon the sport parent. If I can get to that garden this January (I have an injury that keeps me from driving) I'll take cuttings from it, (I've had a permission letter, to do this for a few years now). The blooms are the size and shape of another Tea; Catherine Mermet, but the petals are glossy and cream. 'Cemetary Musk' seedling I bought this at the Sacramento Cemetary sale intending to use it in a white rose border, but I should have visited the plant in the garden first, my mistake, for it is a pink Noisette, not a white Musk. It is a fetching five petaled pink rose, with the regular re-bloom of a Noisette, and the foliage is so healthy and attractive that I regularly use it in bouquets, and it is still blooming now, ten days before Christmas. I left Celsiana and white Rose of York, when I moved, and though they are not unusual, they are rarely seen where I live near San Francisco, ca. Oh, how I miss them! Luxrosa

MojaveL, Oh, you asked about the 'most vicious' - a superlative adjective if I ever saw one, but does that also make it a qualitative adjective, too? Glad you asked, because here's my most vicious here. Aloe marlothii. It's been repotted since then and is growing, it seems. I might bed this one out in the summer. It likes heat. Do you know of the Association of English Majors? It's on Prairie Home Companion - one of my favourite skits. Here's a viscious Arizona one - a rescued Ferocactus wislizenii. But getting back to unique. This one's unique because I've never seen one this large. In two years, it's quintupled in size from its formerly potted home to being PIGed (put in ground). It's Opuntia/Tephrocactus strobiliformis. I've always had a soft spot for Tephrocactus, which, in spite of my English teachers' instructions otherwise, still want to call 'Jethrocactus'.

That is cool ,,, I've been keeping an eye out for an old birdcage too and, so far, haven't found anything. I like the handle and that it sits up off the ground. And the price, well you can't beat that. Great find. My most creative plant stand (not actually a stand) is my latest attempt with my grandmother's plant (I'll post pictures later). My family calls it the "plant contraption". :) Enjoy your RHP ,,, he looks great.

Cherries' n Cream - got this bareroot from J&P this spring it grow 4ft by summer. Blooms a lot...not fragrant.

Ooh! Those roses are really gorgeous! Kathy, I really like Lifelines especially! I've never heard of Manyo...it's a really pretty orange. :0)

Celeste, I love the full bush shot of Distant Drums. I just transplanted our DDs to a side garden that got more sun....love it too.
I have always wondered about Morden Sunrise and Lafter. MS reminds me a little of our Flutterbye, which is going to be transplanted to a different site next spring.
How do you like Love and Peace? I love the way it glows....plain Peace bores me to tears....so we have Pink Peace and Chicago Peace. I almost bought Night Owl a few weeks ago, I love the color!

I just love the photos you just posted, Rainbow. I didn't see them til after I just posted. I esp. like your Cherries 'n Cream and Lover's Lane. Thanks for showing them. Lover's Lane reminds me a little of my grandiflora called Love, but I kinda like a pink reverse even better. Phyl

I was going to ask you the same question, Beth. Love Red Intuition! Also where to find Irish Creme, Acropolis and Circus Days (reminds me a little of Tequila Sunrise, which I'd love to find, and also a little bit like Well Being, which I have and love!)

August and Phyl, I got RED INTUITION from Carltons a few yrs ago. But Steve Singer at Wisconsin Roses is offering it and its sport PINK INTUITION this Fall. Unfortunately tho, I think he's already done taking pre-orders. He was taking names on a waiting list as far back as February. You guys will probably have to get on next Fall's waiting list now, if he's even starting another list. Guess you'll have to email him and ask.

Phyl, IRISH CREME is sold by Certified Roses, so most likely WalMart and Lowe's should have it when the bareroot season starts. But if you don't want to buy from them, check Regan's list in November when they update. They usually have most of CR's roses. ACROPOLIS and CIRCUS DAYS are only available from Hortico. ACROPOLIS is showing available next month, but CIRCUS DAYS is currently not available.

This is one of my favorite roses named Jacquie Williams, a mini from Ralph Moore that I thought I lost to fertilizer burn in May. It died completely I thought, I dug it up anyways and put it in a pot and put it by the old mini bed where it was sheltered from the hot afternoon sun and kept watering it. After a week it started growing from one of the canes. It is about the same size as when I bought it last Sept in this pic. It's now big enough that I planted it again the other day out in the garden and it's doing fine now. I hope next spring to have some nice pics of it as a much larger rose bush.

WOW these are simply stunning!!! They make me wish I had more room in my garden. : (

I've selected this 'unknown rose' because of the unusual white cast on the petals. It reminds be of a ripe red grape. Unfortunately, I have no idea the name of it - I'm hoping someone may help me with that one.
