About me: My name is August Fensterer, and I've just turned 17 years old (I started the rose circuit at 15). I've been growing roses since the beginning of Summer 2000, and have since then infected two other members of my family with the rose growing bug(Lolli, my Virginia sister, has become an faithful customer of Roses Unlimited, and my dad has begun to ask me about the fall order-- we live in exciting times!) I've learned most of what I know and practice from the Rose forum(and yes, I've been to the Rose Society Meetings-- am I the /only/ one who doesn't particularly like them?)
My favorite rose, because of its color and scent and form, is Dolly Parton. My two ownroot bushes are in their first year, so I expect some more action next year, when I begin to flood the beds with Alfalfa tea, instead of just Alfalfa meal. I have not exhibited in shows yet, but plan to this spring, and hope to use Anastasia, Wimi, Rephidy... or.. even Dolly Parton to good effect. :) Or heck-- wouldn't it be a thrill for my fellow "chilly New Englanders" if I won a ribbon with one of the old classics? (Peace, or Avon, or Rubaiyat?)
I enjoy writing and live theatre. Those interests were combined when I had a play chosen for production in May-2001. First I wanted to be an actor, now a playwright... (and maybe I'll hybridize a few roses on the side). Too bad I'm not doing something /constructive/ like litigation or medicine. Hrrrmph. ;)
Here I am, all introduced.

Commented: About Face Well, it's very pretty, but this isn't an earthquaking beauty that deserves preferential treatment due to Spring performance. If you have something that you think could withstand summer temps as well,...

Commented: Chicago Peace This rose is a show-stopper. Wonderful pictures.

Commented: Blue roses to go on sale in 2009 I think the flower form is crummy, the stems thin and weak. The color is attractive to my eyes, but there is a whole lot of improvement needed before I'd pay what they'll probably be asking for it.
