St. Patrick just laughs at the heat. And grows like a Jungle! What an animal that one is. Space hog too. There is a Tangerine tree back there somewhere. I was going to cut it down because of the pale Yellow Green mixture. But I was afraid it would come back and get me!

Compassion, Fragrant Cloud, Wildfire up high there. It's another crazy one. It likes to grow up into the Apple Tree above it. It's a tall one.

It's not a rose. It's a hybrid Autum Flame Maple Tree. Just planted three years ago. It's going to be a big one. Can you see how that gopher cleaned me out? Out in the front planter box there? Iv'e got work to do this Winter. At least that Gopher won't be around any longer. If I new it was that easy to trap him. I would have gotten him sooner. My poor Sterling Silver, Brandy, Papa Meiland. I know what your thinking. Not Papa Meiland! He will be replaced soon with at least one if not two. I really liked that rose.

Hmmm. No, I hadn't Christopher; thank you for the suggestion. There are similarities (depending on whose photographs one is looking at.) And the physical description matches. OTOH, the fragrance of SC according to HMF is 'none to mild' and this rose in my garden has a very strong old rose scent. I'd give a lot to know it's provenance; just how did a rose (if it were, say, Sissinghurst Castle/Rose des Maures) get up to the northern lower peninsula of Michigan and planted in an out of the way site that was probably homesteaded in the late 1800's? Who were they who had to abandon their little home because they couldn't make a go of it? There are a lot of these sites around the north, marked now only by the ancient lilacs or gnarled apple trees, spring bulbs like grape hyacinths and narcissus - or sometimes if one is lucky, old roses. Only the hardiest plants lived without care all those years, competing with thick field grasses or once-cleared land reverting back to deciduous forest. It's fascinating to think of the possibilities.

Carol I just went through this thread again and realized my comment telling you thank you never posted. Fiji is 3 years old and has barely been pruned, it would be great for a pot, but it has zero scent. It has been one of those with only a spectacular spring show and no much else. I am hoping it improves this year. Jacqueline all your roses are spectacular, but to me there is nothing more romantic than those large large climbers growing on your house. Wow that just looks like a castles 🏰 courtyard. Ann that Olivia is magnificent and perfect. I have several and they are just beginning to open a few buds. Fingers crossed mine look like yours. This one is certainly is top notch rose. stephanie your roses look wonderful specially nice being own root and blooming well. I love your entire area. It looks very neat and no weeds. I am starting to get too many weeds here. Lala I love your roses, but wow that Ascot is beautiful. Where was your previous house? I planted ascot last year and so far it has long canes and very few of any blooms. Yours looks amazing. Kristine I was wondering when you would post pictures of your Olivia. You certainly were my guiding light on getting this rose. I had a spot I thought for an Olivia hedge and it turned out once the sun shifted I did not have enough sun. I ended up with smaller clumps of 2 to 4 plants in multiple areas. This rose is so fantastic that I don’t mind repeating her all over.

I've been thinking about polyanthas recently. As I recall, James Delahanty just loved them. I heard him give a talk on them once many years ago. I recently planted two of White Pet to replace the HT Pope John Paul II. PJPII was a wonderfully fragrant plant (and I recommend it for that reason), but I've been removing any large plants that are very close to the house as part of my campaign to reduce fire risk. I'm thinking of adding a third one, as that bed is mostly white and silver plants. That bed is in sun about half the day. I wonder if polyanthas are often good part shade plants, since your Leonie also does so well.

Thanks for showing all your roses growing and your clean beds, they're beautiful. Really shows in the care you give them, strong, healthy, beautiful roses. Sorry about the front roses, but maybe this time next year you'll have the ones growing strong in there you want again. Will you just replace or add something different?

Hey Rocker dude . Long time no pics. Your roses are better than last year, (If that could be possible). It is great to see them this season. Looks like your doing good. Thank you for showing on the rose forum gallery. I have Chrysler Imperial too , but not quite as many blooms due to climate.

Wow; your pictures are just gorgeous.Beautiful healthy looking roses you have.Love the pictures of the roses around the sidewalk,Gorgeous,and I kept looking for Pete in one of the pictures,and finally see him in the last one.I like the one with the hummer too.Thannks for sharing your roses.Most of mine looks more dead then alive,no leaves left on most of them.The blackspot and heat really got to them.

It's nice to see the whole bushes set into the yard, rather than just blooms. I love all the red ones! I bet visitors love to walk down your walkway! As long as the weather is nice, there's no need to go inside, just entertain outside and enjoy the scenery!

One can not grow hts and not grow Papa Meilland!!! get 2 ASAP.
Boy roses grow well in all that sun and heat. Must need lot of water!

It gave a little sting in my heart when I saw the hummingbird!! One of the things I enjoy in America.
