Broken Irrigation Valve
Comments (3)It's hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like a Lawn Genie valve with built in vacuum breaker. The vacuum breaker is the part that broke, not the actual valve. Vacuum breakers just prevent dirty irrigation water from being drawn back into the pottable water supply line. Like Coho said, it should show some sign of manufacturing defect if that was the case. Water hammer or would more than likely be the culprit. That sudden impact over and over again can eventually weaken the plastic causing it to break over time. There are two options, either replace this valve with another one of the same type, or install a normal irrigation valve and also install a Pressure Vacuum Breaker on the main line between the point of connection and the first valve on that line. Comments (19)Water is not a personal resource--it is a diminishing element that is vital to the health of our natural ecological systems. That said, I do believe that due diligence is in order. When the government does not do its job is protecting the community from polluters and squanderers, then a higher-law must be obeyed. We delude ourselves if we think that we can waste resources without anyone paying but our grandchildren. I understand that many of you don't want to hear this. But many of our actions are pathological, someone must take a healthy stand somewhere. Turning off a water-squanderer's gyser is not at all out of line. Water, like air, is a contept that goes far beyond our pathetic little diatribes about personal property rights. Of course, I have been called an "extremist" when I insist that people should be held accountable for how their actions affect the world that I live in and love. I'll own that distinction with pride....See MoreContractor Code of Ethics
Comments (10)Years ago I was considering using a Kitchen Contractor for a re-do. He said he had obtained permission from a nearby homeowner to allow me to see the work in progress there during a kitchen makeover. I showed up and rang the front bell. the contractor chewed me out for not using the garage entry. lol I did the remodel myself rather than using this guy, and I always felt uneasy that he had never really obtained the homeowner's permission for me to visit. Like you. I'd not be happy with a contractor bringing ANYONE in without my prior permission. I'd discuss your concern with 'management.'
