It's been forever since I posted! Here are a few images, chosen at random. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Susan, I love your companions and the blue trellis, I almost painted a fan trellis that color. I'm so impressed by the beauty and number of blooming things you have, really pretty.

Hi le Jardin, we moved here for several reasons.. my partner is English and had a career opportunity, I wanted the chance to go back to school, and we have family here. I've always loved England anyway, so I was actually more excited than my partner! I love it here. Hi Diane, thanks for looking at the photos, I'm really glad you enjoyed them. Hi albertine, Yay! Another corgi fan. I've had two as well and they really spoil you for other dogs (although, there are many others that I love as well). We see a lot of Jack Russells, Greyhounds, Westies, occasionally an English Bulldog or a Bull Terrier. There are also some type of herders that I'm not familiar with that remind me of skinny versions of Australian Shepherds. If I ever see Lilac Rose looking lonely at a garden centre, I'll probably go ahead a pick her up anyway, but she's not something that I'm going to seek out, there are far to many recommended roses to get first! Andrea! We really have to meet up, I think you might be my soul sister! :) I picked up Mr. Fairchild and Alan Titchmarsh together last autumn, the first to roses that I purchased here. I have mixed feelings about A.T., like your', mine tends to have such heavy flowers that they go right to the ground. On the other hand, there are so many of them! For a first year rose mine must have produced 30 or so roses so far this year. I noticed that if I let the branches hang, like pegging I'm getting new shoots popping up and already there are buds on them too, so I'm just going to let him do his thing and see how it goes. Mr. Fairchild, by comparison, has been less vigourous; but I much prefer the flowers, scent, and bush shape. I really like this rose. Wow... going through your wonderful list: I grew Gertrude in California and didn't really like her. I smell some scent, but my nose doesn't register the scent that everyone else raves about. I had the same problem with Comte de Chambord, so I guess I'm just not wired for that group. Shirifa is in a nice pot, I am hopeful. Jude I adore, I'll have him again soon. Lady Emma Hamilton really surprised me at Austin's, not my colour, but I loved the scent. Summer Song is totally out of my colour range, I wish I had smelled it though.. bananas!?! I really liked Young Lycidas, it is one that needs to be seen in person to really get the subtlety of the colours, and yes.. WOW, what a scent! Love WM2k, so so about Golden, but love the Prince. This is one of my favourite photos of him from my California garden: I saw Dark Lady and Prospero for the first time this trip, both nice but undewhelming. I really liked Munstead Wood. Also saw Radio Times for the first time, it was nice but didn't bowl me over. Now, I had the Alnwick Rose high on my list, but was disappointed in the scent! I chose Sceptre'd Isle over it this year during my small bareroot purchase, and had been wondering if I had made the wrong choice. The way you describe it though, I really out to love it, so maybe it was just the wrong time of day, or I had been overwhelmed by other scents. I grew Evelyn in California and I liked her delicacy very much. I've yet to meet Ab Darby, isn't that strange!? Princess Alexandra and Jubilee are the two top on my list right now, I'll keep my eye out for Rosemoor. Gentle Hermione is the other bareroot I ordered this spring, and she just had her first flowers this week. I like her, and true to Austin's word, she held up beautifully in the rain this morning, and even held water in her cup through the whole day without falling over or apart. I used to grow Tamora as well, but in California it was a rust magnet, I swear it was nearly copper coloured by the end of the season. Apparently they have redone the "Lion garden" and will grow roses with perennials, thank goodness, as much as I like roses I much prefer them mixed with other roses. Hi Aliska 12000, thanks for looking, and good luck with your Wisley, ultimately, it really comes down to each of our gardens, what does poorly for David Austin might be a gem for someone else. I really like the scenery in UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN. Near the end of the movie there is a lovely scene where the writer hosts her adopted son's wedding reception in an Italian garden. Another great scene is when her best friend comments on the "spooky Italian trees". I also agree about the Lord of the Rings trillogy. I own the dvds and have been known to pop in the first movie just so that I can watch the Shire scenes. When I first saw the film I had fantasies of living in a house under a hill with a big round front door. Did you notice the pretty cottage garden in front of BagEnd? Now THAT is my idea of idealic. The Rivendale and Lothlorian scenes were also breathtaking. Two things that stand out in my mind is the silvery garden temple in the first Rivendale scene where Frodo is looking out from his balcony at the elven colony. Another scene is the Elven Queen's scrying well (she calls it the Mirror). I want that well! Mine of course would be surrounded by white roses. Here is a link that might be useful:

I love to see your roses too! redsox, me too, love the close ups, they're such a different feeling. db, it's a camera I bought in April to replace my original digital Canon Rebel. It's the Nikon D300. I'm definitely still in the learning phase.

Jeanette, so glad to hear the mascotts are both resting safely in the infirmary. I see that we can't send any more of these guys out on road trips. they must not be as tough as old nuts the squirrel... though he did get a bit beat up in his travels too. I have been reading magsfrom the box that Remy sent and need to send thanks for the goodies that were included in the box. The special fall Country Living Gardener is terrific is beautiful with so many good articles and the sunflowers on the front cover. Extra special, thanks. Peanut butter kisses are favorites. My brother worked for years for the company that makes them and they always bring happy memories. MMmmmthanks Remy, the watch is so pretty. Thank you so much. My watches are so totally functional and utilitarian it will be a treat to wear something Pretty for a change. Sue, did you make the soap? I want to make some too and have some questions. It sure smells good. I love stuff that smells good. The garden stake and pink glads will go out front in the spring. and the thank you cards are both attractive and practical. Love the old timey wheelbarrow and wish I could find one for my yard. What a treasure that would be. There are also recipe cards and stickers.... hope I didn't miss anything but there were a lot of goodies especially considering how much good reading material was in there too. I appreciate the Green Scene mags as they are close enough to give me ideas of things to plant and places to visit. I've been reading those and enjoying them a lot. I might decide to join PHS myself. When the birdie that is at Jeanettes finds her way home that will be the end of this swap at least until after Christmas. I figure most of us will be pleanty busy from now to then. I'm envious of your beautiful hollyhocks. The few times I tried to grow them, they got rust real bad and most of the leaves turned brown and died. But looking back now, I'm not sure I realized in those days how much watering plants need by midsummer--at least on the frying plains of Kansas.

Love your cute little Jubilee Celebration--I have a new one too and think it is going to be a terrific shrub.

Susan, your pictures are so gorgeous. I like how you plant in groupings...many hollyhocks or lillies in one area make such a strong statement. I want to do that in my gardens. I can't believe that is a "small flush" for Abe...mine is in its third year, own root and looks nowhere near that vigorous. And your New Dawn...WOW! Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures. Susan your garden pictures always amaze me, you are very, very talented.

You know I kinda copied you last year with the chair thing, I loved it that much, they say it is the sincerest form of flattery. LOL I love your chair and I think on JC grows up you won't want to move it, that is a beautiful rose. Well all your roses are incredible, as is the rest of your garden. I love every inch of it, thanks for taking the time to show us those pictures.

OMG! What absolutely magnificent pictures. Your garden is like a paradise, I'm in awe (and drooling over it all). I think I might give Hollyhocks a try next year, never had them before. Looking at Abe made me smile, now I hope that mine will look as stunning as yours one day.

how do you get our tall lillies to stand up straight? we have the same ones and they flop over (i tried to do just a little discrete propping up but i don't see anything supporting yours)

cormac, maybe these aren't the same ones. The stems, if that's what they are called, are very very strong. But because they can get to 8 feet plus, due to summer storms, we stake them when they start to get 5-6 feet tall. I'm not so sure we need to, but we do.

Susan, your garden is just outstanding !!! I love all of your companion plantings. Do you sow seeds for the hollyhocks directly into the garden? Any special advice on growing hollyhocks? I keep trying every year but mine don't look like yours. Thanks so much for sharing pictures of your beautiful garden. Keep 'em comin' - please.

I am absolutely blown away. My garden has taken a beating from the summer heat, lack of rain, and water restrictions. Thank you for the inspiration. Now I have something to aim for.

Thank you very much again!! The garden is coming back to life....finally. Not many roses, but the ones that are beginning to bloom again are richer in color, I love the fall's deeper rose colors.

Janen, no, I don't sow seeds for anything. I think I bought a batch of hollyhocks from Wayside some years back. Now, they spread very well and I get more and more. They are so healthy for me, I'm crazy, really crazy, about Hollyhocks. The only thing is, once they bloom, they'll continue to bloom, but they'll start look really ratty. I still have blooms on them, which is unusual, but they look so bad right now. Can't cut them down yet, though. We may put compost on them if we remember at the start of the year, otherwise, I mostly don't even water them. I really like that old fashioned bloom rather than the pompom, but just to mix it up, I'll probably get some of those too soon.

msmisk, I hope the fall will bring you a renewed garden. My garden also went to sleep in the summer, mostly. It's just waking up now.

ronda, you're a peach!! I'm actually putting together albums of my very best images, it's taking a little time, because I'm so picky. It will be a different type of website, a change from amateur status, and I'm excited about it!!
