hmmm, mine's in a pot - after being dormant for 3 months (no kidding!) it finally started putting out shoots!! I'm really hoping the colour is dark for me ... thanks for sharing your pictures Leslie.

I'm sorry Leslie. I am getting so annoyed with the colors turning out the same, and it's not purple. Alot of the colors seem to revert back to what I call magenta. Magenta, IMHO, has shades of dark pink in it. My Ebb Tide is not purple either.

Weeks picture sure does not bear any resemblance to your photo. I wonder where their photo was taken. Where do they have their rose fields? It seems to me that when we were in Texas we went to a rose field which I believe was Weeks roses. Leslie, I think you may find that next season the colour may be different. I know that where I grow roses, some roses are much more brilliant in cool early spring weather and others seem to be more colourful with more sunshine. It depends on the variety of rose and the soil conditions I believe also contribute to colours. I find the colour of your BI more to my taste than Weeks.

Missflippins, I just thought I'd share what it's looking like, especially if you're in an area with heat like I have. It doesn't shatter blooms like Iceberg does but it does bloom fast. It is a fine color to me, I like dark pinks and I like roses that change colors, but I was expecting PURPLE which is why I bought it. So I think I'll stick with my lavender roses. This rose may change again in the fall when it cools off, I have other roses that change colors also with the heat but not this radically.

Aprille, this one sat there after transplanting it for almost 6 weeks before it starting growing and budding out. Roses are still on the small side and to top it off the leaf cutter bees decided they liked it for their nests. I have holes all over the foliage while it was still in transplant shock because it was really too hot to move.

Carla maybe it's a good thing you put off getting it then too, especially if you get heat and Ebb Tide isn't true for you.

Saw this one at the Portland Rose Garden and it was quite dark purple, like your first picture.

We had a couple of very hot days this last week, and I was there on the second of those days. Perhaps blooms that matured during the heat wave were lighter?

well,its still pretty rose.maybe it will darken up in the fall with cooler weather.

nickelsmumz8, here are examples of both sets of blooms when they're. The pink bloom featured after the bud above is a mature bloom. The red is a typical bloom before it's done also. The pink ones are usually what I get when the 100's are around. Right now the bush has both colors and a few blooms made up of the one above of pink, red and white:)

Crisping in the sun is a function of the dark color absorbing solar energy that the white Iceberg reflects away. That's why afternoon shade is generally recommended for dark red and purple roses.

I realize that, these are old blooms. I was showing on the pink what the last color is and on the red what the last color is. These roses are ready to be deadheaded in this next to last pic, I'm showing buds a 2nd day rose and dead blooms.

These roses in bloom are not crisping in the sun, as evident from the first rose pics. However to get darker colored roses I may move them in the fall to a different location and because this rose also seems to need so much water from the sun.

Les, my experience with it has been the same. It has been magenta pink. The ugly little flowers shatter very fast. I planted it in late May, it has really struggled in the heat, wilting more than anything else I've planted. I have no idea what the wilting issue is - it's on the drip system and gets watered every other day just like everything else in the garden. So far, 4 paws down. I just don't look at it anymore. Maybe it has an ugly duckling phase. I should go peek at it and see if it's still here (and maybe ask it, "WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?").

Ahhh, Michelle, so it's not just me. It's supposed to be just as good a rose as Iceberg. Iceberg blooms may shatter in the sun, but the rose and foliage don't mind full sun and heat that last year went to 117 and normal 3 times a week watering. I assumed this one as advertised would be as such. BI no longer wilts IF I give it a full water basin every other day and I believe our soil conditions are similar. I have amended clay soil that it's planted in.

I like my Burgundy Iceberg, but it isn't purple for me either. It's been a reddish burgundy color so far. Mine was from Heirloom so it is still a small plant and has only had two blooms on it. What I like about it is the white reverse with the dark colored blooms. I'm going to be patient with it and see what it does once it gets established.

Leslie, when I saw BI at RU, it was beautiful. I did not know it is supposed to be purple but I liked what I saw.

My bet is it needs those cool temps to bring out the darker color too. A lot of my roses are pale shadows of themselves in the high temps we've had recently. I still think they're pretty anyway.

Oh I like the colors it is ok, that red is very pretty as is the pink. I just chose this instead of Ebb Tide for the purple. I also keep forgetting where I put it is in between two climbers on the fence. So maybe in the next couple of years shade from those will help on the color from the hot afternoon sun. If not I'll enjoy the color it is and not attempt Ebb Tide either, it's just too hot here for a dark purple rose. At least I have my lavenders:)
