Help - heirloom/saved tomato seeds did not germinate/sprout
Comments (5)Wow - you all are quick! The seeds were not old, just from last season's crop. They were a nice buff color with some fuzz. I have seen the darker (fermented) seeds and I do not plant those. I did not try them on a paper towel, but I will try that with a couple of the seeds left. We have used those expandable peat pots to start them for the last four years. We then set the peats pots into those clear egg containers, kind of a mini greenhouse, they fit perfectly, and placed them in our garden window. The moisture level is fine, humidity good. I have baked things in the past... The seeds have been sown for just shy of a month. :( I can't think of anything different that was done. I will just have to buy plants, right? I so appreciate your follow-up & additional questions to make me think about what may have happened! Thank you so much, Carolyn and Spiced Ham!...See Moreseed germination inside tomato fruit
Comments (19)I just ran across this site because I was looking for a cause of this and if and how to plant my tomatoes. I have 2 tomatoes, on the same vine that were bought in the store about a week ago. My house temp is about 68-70 degrees and I have sprouts that broke the surface of the tomato. It looks rather cool but like I said, I don't know if and how to plant them or if I can this time of year. I just put a link on here, not knowing what I am doing to see if you can get the picture. But, can I just plant it inside, whole in the tomatoes so that I don't mess up the cause of the growth?...See MoreTomato seeds sprouting yet??
Comments (5)If you've had cold weather until recently relax. We just hit the 60s here in the last week and the only tomato sprouts I have are one Anna Russian, which just broke the surface April 6 and the very, very beginnings of an Amish Paste. When you ws tomatoes you'll be putting very small plants in the ground at plant-out time (unless you've had a warmer than average winter). Don't worry. They'll catch up once it's consistently warm....See MoreAnyone seen this ???? seed sprouted inside tomato!!!
Comments (6)Couple years ago I had a tomato that started sprouting like that. Just out of curiosity, I left it in the kitchen window, and it had sprouts all over. They were actually growing pretty well, and I thought about planting it. Never did, but I bet it would have produced a nice tomato plant. I posted it on gardenweb, but can't find it now....See Moredorisl
