Here's a good reliable bloomer/rebloomer. Manages to always put out at least a handful of blooms even when the other roses take a break. Seems to like the heat too. And has very few BS problems. Quite a cute floribunda--I love its many shades.

I just snapped this pic. Double Knockout is our best bloomer right now but to be fair I am trying to rebuild our garden with better BS resistant roses and our other roses are younger yet. So this probably doesn't count...lol

It's looking good, Jim--especially as we go into the dog days of summer when quite a few roses just give up and go semi-dormant until the cooler autumn weather comes around--at least they do in my Zone 6 (Midwest).

Your marigold compete quite well with the neon colors of KO, don't they!

Yes, planting as many BS resistant roses as possible is the only way to go. Good for you!

sue, i'll be turbo grading on monday and tuesday, final papers as they write their final exams and then the exams as they come in, then the greenhouse on wed, then thursday my lit papers are due so a final batch of turbo grading, greenhouse friday sat and sunday, and grades are due monday so somewhere before then i have to add up all of those numbers. that will probably be my friday night, sitting on the couch, watching the thursday night tv shows online, and cursing at the calculator. i have done nothing in my garden un a long time, no transplanting of seedling yet. don't even have a plot dug up. rain rain rain. after next week, though, if no one else signs up for my 102 comp class (which would be BAD. if you know anyone desperate enough to pass comp 2 that they will come to waynesburg to do it, let me know LOL) i will only be working at the greenhouse until the last week of june, when i do my week long nature lit class. hopefully i can get everything planted out before the heat of july kicks in!!

Right now I'm into the color GREEN! Green means IT LIVED!!! I'm loving the green sprouts from the trees to the potted plants. And, My BIG Su-prize! While cking my 'shade plant' holding bed I saw a huge hydrenda (sp) bloom! Further inspection showed it to be my little 5" snowball bush! The bloom is as big as the plant! Not only did the baby live, but it bloomed grown up size blooms! I'm so proud! Blooming now in my yard- 2 bunches of purple oxlias (also the ones in pots I just bought from HD) 2 wh salvia blooms 2 tulips 2 bunches of mini daffs 1 old fashion wh petunia bloom And 3 acres of weed/wildflowers-breath taking!

I too was going to suggest an alternative "basket". Possibly a nice basket they can use for storage, or perhaps a plastic tote? Backpack, fannypack, computer bag, etc. You can decorate it anyway you like. There's also the reuseable bags from stores they shop which is a gift that keeps giving if they get credit each time they use them. Otherwise, they take up virtually no room and can be used for a myriad of things. I really like your idea of the necessities and functional things. Especially for someone whose funds might be tight. And treats vary by person too. Perhaps some beef jerky, cheese, or a bottle of wine, etc, would be more appreciated than sweets to some. The spirit (no pun intended) is there. A friend of mine each year would give his grandmother a small but good ham, a small loaf of bakery/special bread, some of her favorite fresh veggies and a dessert of some sort. Sized in amounts she could handle with just a few leftovers if any. She loved to cook but Social Security was her sole income so some things like these were luxuries to her. She was thrilled at the thoughtfulness. Each person is different. Perhaps a prepaid phone card and your phone # on it? As a hint! ;) Gas card, prepaid Visa/MC will get used and appreciated. Are there any spices they like but don't buy? Keep your mind, eyes and ears open for things they want and need.

We don't even celebrate Easter religiously, and my dd always got a basket with some good quality candy (mama don't like cheap chocolate, heh heh), a book or 3, some fun little items, socks, always an item of summer clothing, but the most fun was that we hid the basket in the house and had a series of clues she had to go through to find it; "I'm can be hot but usually I'm not" (the oven), "I'm a plant with blooms to wow the holes in your cranium, I'm a ________", etc. We used to make her go through about 10 clues before she got the one that led to the basket. It was fun and yes, it is absolutely pathetic that I can remember some of the rhymes I wrote and can't recall important info, like sending in my car registration. She's now a sophomore in college and still likes to find her clues, all the while protesting loudly, of course.

My new sweet little floribunda, Orchid Romance is doing the best of my roses right now. Its first blooms were tiny, almost looked like a mini rose the first time it bloomed in May. It seems to repeat quickly and each time the blooms are larger. Seems to be a healthy rose, no blackspot. I have to say I am also very impressed with Our Lady of Guadalupe, while it's not blooming right now it seems to be very healthy and a good bloomer, also my three Julia Child roses are all setting on a bunch of buds right now, I think I'm really going to like that rose. I love your Easter Basket Rose Kate, it is so pretty. Jim, your Knockout rose looks very healthy and looks good with the marigolds.

These creamy ones certainly are lovely--Cream Veranda and Cream Abundance. Are they a special type that I am unfamiliar with?

Orchid Romance is indeed a sweetie. May she just keep on increasing her blooms!

Hey Kate, Cream Veranda is aka Garden of Roses or Cream Flower Circus. It's a great bloomer all summer. Cream Abundance is a great bloomer too. I think Celeste's pictures got me hooked on it when I first found Garden Web and the rest is history!

My Valencia is soon going to be my best - 33 huge buds ready to pop!!!

Those are lovely roses everyone!! I especially like Easter Basket and Orchid Romance!!

Mine is Day Breaker. She's such a show off and I LOVE it!!!! She came as a bareroot rose this spring and has bloomed 3x already and is super healthy. First time ever planting a bare root. Ã¢ÂÂºÃ¯Â¸ÂÃ¢ÂÂºÃ¯Â¸Â

Let's Celebrate has bloomed non-stop all summer. I mean a day has not gone by where there were less than 18 flowers on this plant. I purchased it from Palatine Roses and planted this Spring.
