'Tis true, happens a relative of mine lives in the Bronx, literally across the street from the Bronx Zoo, a couple of blocks from the Botanic Garden & a few blocks from Fordham Univ. Given that I'm not surprised to hear that Mviridis, good for you! Thanks for the info. on that Bronx Hydro, I'll have to check them out. I posted a similar thread about this at Houseplant Forum, where I talked a bit about the set up (they sit in just an inch or 2 of water). Greenjay: Sorry, I can't refer you to reading materials. Sort of flying by the seat of my pants here. With a foundation of what I know about Sans. much learned here, especially from Norma (Love back attcha!) & a certain Aloe Boy. I did see a talk by a Hydro grower/vendor several years ago & bought a Hoya from them 3 yrs. ago that I've continued to grow w/ success in their Hydro set up. So I've started dabbling on my own & it works, I see it's almost a year since the first one. I came home tonight w/ another Sans., a unusual one which grows stolons & plantlets (like Spider babies). A leaf got damaged in transit, so I took it off & will try water rooting that too! Why not?

Thought I'd give you an update on our trip. The first day 5 of them did a wine tour and a friend and I looked for bookstores. We got the muni pass and rode cable cars and buses through upper SF and into the Mission district. We walked more miles than I have ever walked in my life, ate at some great restaurants, and took the BART back to the Ferry Building. We did the Hop on Hop off, and that was probably a good way to get acquainted with the city. We should have done that the first day. We went to Sausalito, saw the Golden Gate and Oakland Bridges, and the Seven Sisters. We spent every evening walking through Fisherman's Wharf. I bet the locals get tired of tourists but we found it fascinating to hear all the different languages spoken around us. We met a young man who had decided to drop out of his master's program and tour the world all by himself. He was from Israel and had climbed part of Mt. Everest, and been to Africa, Antarctica, Peru and several countries in South America, and had been across the northern US starting in New York. We also wondered why we didn't see any flies and mosquitoes there. All that seafood sitting out on tables in the open air and nothing but seagulls around. Very interesting. Wouldn't want to live there, but wouldn't mind going back every few years, especially if we rented a condo rather than stay in a hotel.

Have you looked at Marvin Integrity? I just installed one. Can't comment on long-term performance, but the price seemed reasonable and I like the appearance.

Sooooo….. Banded Nelsonii looks very similar but they’re not identical or not 2 different names for the same variety/sport/whatever, unlike “Whitney” & “Silver Flame,” I think, having learned they’re equivalent after agreeing to pay for an unseen Silver Flame when told it was “super rare.” And we all know “rare” rarely means rare these days, so I thought this person was reliable. Maybe she didn’t know. I rarely even look at their house plants, but making multiple trips this week due to major diy renovations, I needed a moment’s distraction. Still not entirely convinced because I’ve seen others incorrectly labeled, but doesn’t seem to have near the amount of lighter green Black Coral has. (You can easily find the patent, hence description, but it’s far from one that leads to automatic ID!?) Those 3-4 plants have already given me several babies so I’m definitely not opposed to sharing/trading, esp for the aforementioned Banded Nelsonii, a true Silver Queen, or Singer’s Silver (which has proven even harder to find after mine was frozen), among others, if anyone discussing it here is interested. I have a LOT of aroids, so open to those, Hoya, & well, lots of stuff 😬 I’m horrid at checking messages &/or following up on convos, but will try~just assume it won’t be immediately 🤷🏽‍♀️
