2012 Incredible Edibles Swap Schedule

I know it has been awfully quiet around this forum lately, but I also know that several folks from this forum have participated in some of the edible seed swaps that I have held on the Round Robin forum, so I thought I would post a link to the new swap schedule that I have been working on for the past couple of weeks.

Hope that some of you will join in the fun this coming year!

It sounds like fun and a good way to get a variety. I've never participated in a seed swap so pardon any dumb questions I may ask. I'll read through the faq's to try to figure it out. I'm assuming you want newer seeds, like those packaged for 2011 or 2012? Do we send full packs of seeds?

I appreciate the effort you must put into these exchanges.

Yes, things are quiet around here. Thanks to you and digit for trying to keep things rolling.

Glad to know there's someone actually reading my posts, LOL!

Usually for group swaps, we ask that the seeds be no older than 2 years. So you could send in seeds out of your garden that were harvested in '10, or '11. With commercial seeds, once we enter 2012, you are correct, it would be seeds purchased in '11 or '12. As far as sending whole packs, it depends a lot on the seed count. Some companies only send 20 - 25 seeds per pack, some send way more than that. The host sets the minimum seed count per packet, but it is usually 12 - 15 seeds, for things like peppers, or tomatoes. If you are dealing with tiny seeds, such as carrots, or onions, it would be more like 25 - 50, or some will say a "pinch". I've even seen some give measurements, such as a 1/4 teaspoon.

As a host, I love the people that send in extra : ) Seriously, some folks will count every seed and send the bare minimum. If I have a couple of people interested in the same seed, then it's nice if I can divide the pack between them, and sometimes it's a seed that I'd like to try for myself, but I don't want to take away from the other participants in the swap, so if there is extra, I may pull out just two or three seeds for myself.

Hi Wintersowers! I haven't been around the Winter Sowing forum much lately, but I've been trading/swapping with some of you for years, and I know there are quite a few wintersowers that grow edibles, so I thought I would post a link to the new swap schedule on this forum. Thanks to those who have been praying for my health, and being patient while I recovered!! Sorry about the delay. I finally have gotten well enough to go to the PO. Amy's package is mailed... delivery conf. number is 03080070000104829437 Looking forward to hearing from Amy when it arrives. :) I also picked up my package today from Amy!!! She sent the following seeds: Early Girl tomato White Vienna Kohlrabi Royal Burgundy Bush beans (nice color, and might even fit my small garden space, yay!!) Swiss Chard, ruby organic - Awesome. :) Radish, White Icicle organic- yum! And a very handy looking pair of rubberized hot pink garden gloves, how cool! :) WOW! Thank you very much Amy! You were very generous, and the organic seeds were a very thoughtful gesture. I will have a blast growing these!!! :)

Hi Becky, Just my humble opinion here. I had a lot of season's end seeds to share. I hope that some go to everyone here that participates ~ I also hope that I sent enough to get some to the need 4 seeds charity as well. That was also somewhat my intent as well. I have happily/relieved that I cleaned out my seed box. I am looking forward to getting a few different/new seeds to try as well. I don't need oodles/hordes of seeds back... I mean after all what is the point of cleaning out the excess only to fill it up with excess again? I happily joined your swap because I really wanted too just share my excess of seeds with others whom might not readily have access to what I was growing. Yet they may have an excess of something I could really use.....Does that make sense? I really do need cucumbers, and possibly some sweet corn too... I went through my stuff to grow for this years garden and found that I am seriously lacking in the cucumber/corn department! Any herb seeds would be welcome too. I have on my GW member page a list of stuff I would love to have. I did not get a list too you of stuff that I wanted simply in my excitement / urgency of finally being able to get the seeds on there way to you I simply forgot. >>>lots o' stuff happening around here!!So if in question please peruse my GW member page... Just please remember my yard is a small area to garden, so no pumpkins please... They large or small the plants simply overwhelm my small space ~ Thank you again for hosting such a neat swap!! I am really excited to participate in my first round robin hope it goes well for everyone. I don't get off work unitl late at night so please have a little patience with the going, going, gone on the seeds... I might not get a chance to post until late at night with my work schedule quite hectic here... so please have some patience in that regard... bgrow_gardens

I'll probably join some of the swaps this winter/spring.

Last year the pepper swap was pushed forward but it still seemed a bit late. I like to start peppers in late February to the 1st week of March. Though this year I'm lucky enough to be going to Puerto Rico during that time. Peppers can wait :-)
