Remember soy sauces differ significantly, so depending upon the brand/type originally used in recipe development the final flavor might have been considerably milder. If there's an Asian market anywhere in the area you might ask if they ever do "tastings" of their products. Or purchase the smallest possible size until you hit on one that at least isn't so obnoxious. Pineapple is high-acid so if anything, as long as you continue to maintain a thinner sauce, there's no problem adding it. On another note, on that Idaho recipe I'd be inclined to reduce the ClearJel by half. That stuff has incredible thickening power and many of the "approved" recipes are just too viscous for my taste. Alternatively, leave thickening out and plan to thicken if desired once the jar is opened. Personally I think that would be a more versatile alternative - more possibilities for use as a marinade, etc.

I enjoy these hobbies with utmost happiness and I'm always glad to help out everyone in any way I can. I'll cherish them for as long as I can. A funny story about the cake mix and the pie filling. I adore my Kindle!! I waited for years before I finally decided to try one....thanks to the help of my daughter. I just "knew" I'd not like it since I am a [real] book lover. But it was love at first sight. Now, saying that........I'm very partial to my real books and find that those I will read again in the future are ordered in book form only. Most often these are non-fiction. For my Kindle I buy those novels that are a one-time read or a book for which I can't wait out the order time. (I live in a foreign country.) I have such an over-abundance of books....a bookcase or two or three in every room.....and need to cut down on the space that all the physical books take up. This has been a great way. It's great for travel or when visiting away from home. I enjoy the feeling of having hundreds of interesting books all inside my Kindle.....my own library! It really saves weight and the hassle of packing multiple books.

Recipes For Easy Living by Curtiss Ann Matlock has several recipes in it, two that interested me quite a bit, so I tried them. the Raisin pie is ok, it's a good recipe but you'd better have a LOT of people to eat it, as one person can only stand so many raisins at a time lol. The cornbread was beyond horrid. When you pour two cups of boiling water over cornmeal you get gruel. Baking it doesn't help. Luckily, the donkey's liked it just fine. BTW, I thoroughly enjoyed that book, the third of a trio she wrote about the same bunch of people in Valentine, Oklahoma--an hour from Lawton. Which is darned near home territory for me, near enough to be neighborly at least. First on is "cold tea on a hot day', can't remember the second title & my neighbor has the set right now. I always meant to try some of the recipes from the Covington books, but never got around to it. j
