When do apples ripen on the Front Range?

I discovered an apple tree growing in my back yard. It's small, and the apples are in proportion, although they're much bigger than crabapples. But they're still green. I've been told in another forum that I'll never get apples from the tree because if it was any good I'd have ripe apples by now.

Is this true? Do I have a dud of a tree? I was so delighted at my "found" tree and so seriously bummed out when I was told that it was, essentially, worthless.

I thought apples around here could take into October to ripen, but I'm just a stupid newbie. What do I know?

This tree is small and growing in an area that doesn't get full sun, unlike my peach, which towers over its immediate landscape.

Btw, my refrigerator is stuffed to the gills with peaches, and I have them ripening everywhere downstairs.

And I got both garlic orders this week. Combined I think that's 26 garlic bulbs. Which could be as many as 250 garlic bulbs to harvest next summer.

I gotta clear more space.
