Well i picked the 1 fig in the above pictures this morning it just started to rain , we have had the driest Aug in 75 years the weatherman said and expected some remnants of gustav that rode a jet stream north here. Several inches expected today and tonight. Anyways it could have stood on tree another day or so but had to pick it because it would have fell with the high winds we are expecting today.It weighed 3.28 ounces , when i cut opened the inside had a mahogany color i ate the fig each piece at a time slowly and savored the taste. I was expecting the melon taste to appear but it never did, instead i was treated with a sugary sweet and a lite fig taste ( unexpected ) in my mouth. Last year very few had this taste and most had melon overtones for a taste, also this fig was not as juicy melt in your mouth fig as last years crop was. Not a lot but there was some crunch i also observed when chewed slowly. Im looking forward to taste more figs from this tree before it gets cold,and hopefully some with that melon taste that i enjoyed last year on some of the figs. Last year this long late season tree gave me 30 ripe figs that were very good then the cold hit. It was sweeter than my EL Sals but had a lighter fig taste. Overall a good fig but so far not as good as last year,hope to taste more and get a better judgment.I do hope the melon tones will appear in some of the figs like last year that i enjoyed. I really like the difference in taste among fig tree's

I am not a fig Expert but my understanding Figs need suns to ripen. As for your Squirrel problem I have the same thing but I think I solve it. I bought a pellet Gun it shoots BB too. What I love about this Gun is that you have to cock it. To Kill or injure an animal you have to cock it 10-12 times. But I have no intension of killing or injuring any animal. I cock it 3 times and I just give him a sting in the But. He never come back. My Girl friend walked me and told me there is a deer nibbling on my apricot trees I cocked the gun 4 times and I gave her a shot in the But she jumped over the fence and never came back. The Squirrels don't eat fruit but they destroy them by cutting a hole in every one. Now in Winter I buy squirrel food and feed them. I told them I have the Olive branch in one hand and the gun in the other hand get away from my trees we stay friends. I wish they understand.

OK, well, my greenhouse is made of double thickness plastic with nylon string in between the two layers and i think most heat would just go away. Also, I live in North West Washington....on an Island. this time of year that means mold can go rampant, and more so in a greenhouse, even if you have a fan on it can get itself going. I want the peppers to ripen, and in the past i have brought them into my home and it does cause them to ripen faster....but the aphids do come in.....ergo, the storage room and not where the house plants are....or i would be dead meat AGAIN for introducing mass aphids into the house...so i will see what happens and i will see in a few weeks when i get home. thanks for the suggestions. i wish i did have the BIG BUCKS and had a sweet greenhouse i could keep "warm" have a good day folks----bob well, i did finish the greenhouse after this pic with the ends trimmed and a door made

Are those dimensions correct? The dining room is roughly 3' wide by 12' long?
