Ingrid, you can't see that view directly from my house but a lot of the areas near me you can see the mountains like this! I live in the Santa Clarita area (north of Burbank/LA) I'm not sure if my rose is Mrs. Wood's or if it's just Lavender Pink! Ah well, we'll see how it does. I'll try and get some form of protection up for my shorter bands, soon. THanks guys, I didn't even think of that! huttnem, I agree about the clouds! Those mountains with the sun moving over them... it's easier to see them when the clouds have cleaned out the air and cause the light to move in beautiful ways. Plus, I have no desire for us to get to 110 degrees sooner than we need to. :)

You said "when you planted them..." Was that last year or this spring? Are the pink blooms on the same branches as the purple ones were on previously? Especially if you planted last year, my first thought is that you have branches coming up from the rootstock (many roses are grafted), instead of the part of the rose that's grafted on top of the rootstock. The rootstock on grafted roses is generally something very hardy and is not going to have the same flowers as what you saw blooming previously. Look at the plant -- the graft is usually obvious near the base of the plant -- and see where the branches are coming from. If they're coming from below ground or below the graft, cut them off. If they're coming from above the graft, I'm stumped, but I'm sure someone who knows more about roses can chime it! CoriAnn, this is a brilliant idea!!! I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures of Florence D.; on HMF, the photos show a colour that is very washed-out and muddy in comparison to the ones posted here. I myself have become very,very focused onto lavender,violet, purple, mauve roses,after realizing last year that these were the colours that pleased me the most,so I'm on the alert for good ones in this category. I'm even thinking of changing my present policy and actually trying an HT or two!

Becky - they are so very pretty. I just love taking closeups of roses and love seeing them as well. Just want to get lost in those gorgeous petals. Thanks for sharing.
