Northerner_on, They chocolates are habs. They are a great pepper and very prolific. They do have a nice semi smokey flavor. My favorite hab so far. Makes a great powder or sauce too. Thanks for the kind words all:)

I was tooling around youtube the other day, and a couple were testing peppers and
mentioned "Romy." I immediately thought, I bet it's the same Romy...and sure enough, it was!
You're the man, supplying folks with samples of heat across this nation.
There ought to be a hot pepper Medal for people like you and Bill :-)

That really is quite a haul! Are these from plants that were mature prior to summer? Or do you sow mid-year, and protect the plants until the weather breaks?

...btw, those Chocolate Habs really are beautiful...I've gotta get me some!!

PJ, here on the middle east coast of Florida I can grow outside year around.I usually have to bring some plants in the garage a few times. But I sow plants all year except between December and February. The plants from these harvest are all a year older or more. I do have a few 4 or 5 month old plants producing some nice pods as well.

I'm going to have to get creative to get my plants through the summer next year. This time around I made my soil mix much more porous to offset the summer rainfall totals, understanding full well that this will also require increased attention during the dry months. I've also got some shade issues that I'm trying to overcome, especially for any volume of mature plants. Again, I'll need to get creative. The bugs too, whiteflies mainly, will be the death of me, I swear. In general, and surprisingly so, the bugs weren't so bad this past summer, but I had whiteflies on all the peppers. The rest of the yard was clear of them, but they were on those peppers like a magnet. It eventually got out of control, and I just had to strip the pods and destroy the plants. I'm trying Pro-Tekt with my Neem applications this year, which seems to be working much better.

Anywho, I'm all over those seeds! I'll hit ya with an email later today.

Romy, nice harvest. That long growing season sure seems to benefit the super hots. 2012 is already a done deal up here. I love seeing other people's harvests this time of year. It keeps me going until it is time for me to start the next season.

You sure have some great pepper harvests. As Bruce said, our season is a done deal up this way, so seeing your pics helps us make it through our few pepperless months.

Shoot, we are having a pretty good thunder/lightening/rain storm right now, which is very unusual for us. Maybe if the weather keeps changing, who knows, maybe in five years our pepper season will be longer!

Keep the pepper pics coming and also a pic of your plants would be nice to see too.

Impressive harvest Jamie! Those chocolate habs look incredible. My neighbor grew Jamaican Hot Chocolates this year and they are pretty phenomenal (Crazy Hot). I don't know if it's the color of those brown chiles that fools me, but I swear they taste a little smokier than the others.

Let's hope next year's bounty has a few reapers!

Question - it looks like the ones in front of the house and along the back fence are on the north (west?) sides ? How many hours of sun do they get?

DMF. Thank you for the kind words. My house faces west. The ones in the front of the house get about 6 to 8 hours depending in the time of year. The south side of the house they get about 5 to 7 depending on the year.
