how long should i wait for the peppers to ripen?

I have 8 datil pepper plants with fruit on them. The peppers are full size and still green. They have been this way for about a week and a half. How long should I wait until I pick the pepper? The plants are indoors so the temperature is between 60-70.

hard to say, every pepper takes a different amount of time. I also think the first chili's of the plant seem to take longer than subsequent peppers. They will change eventually

You are in zone 4? As I remember you had some pretty cool weather until recently. I wouldn't get out the shovel yet! I dug up two roses yesterday, and found that while they had no signs of life above ground, they did have live root growth and some swelling leaf buds below ground. I potted them up to give them a little babying. Your area is still warming up, so you may see some growth. It was a hard winter for our area too, but with all the grafts buried, all the HT's came through, most killed to the ground. One just broke dormancy last week. Usually, I give up on them if they show no signs of life by June 1st, but this year is a bit different. Please forgive any spelling errors - I'm typing without my glasses this morning!

Just give it a sensible quarantine period. Two weeks should be more then enough.

Ooh I'm sorry, I know they're supposed to be red. It was a slightly yellow coloration that I was talking about. My camera is being repaired right now so I was using my phone for the pictures,so it is a bit difficult to see.. sorry about that. But thank you for the ID! Greatly appreciated. :)

I understande that seed freshness has a lot to do with germination time. I am fairly sure that my seeds are relatively fresh. My question had to do with the "possible" moldy substance on my seeds that have been in moist soil for almost a month now. Should I be concerned? I am tempted to start a fresh batch, but I do not want the same results. I thought that if I soaked my seeds, planted in the correct soil medium, and kept the temperature right, that I would have seen better results by now. I pinched the seeds gently and they are still firm. I hope I am just over reacting. My second question still stands: On another note, what ph should I try to keep the soil of my canary date palms at? They are still on their 3rd leaf. Do you recommend granular fertilizer or liquid? Any brands you like more than others?

My experience with the Datil variety is that it is a long season pepper and it takes a while to turn yellow (or red if sweet).

Just curious...

Did you recently bring the plants indoors so that you could overwinter??

I would have thought you could have left them outside in Zone 9.

At any rate, Datil peppers are one of my favorites. Good flavor and heat!! They make a very nice powder...

Well, They just started to ripen. They are getting a few hours of direct sunlight in the afternoon. Yea, these are the hot ones and turning yellow now. I just brought them inside last week for the winter. i moved and forgot to change the zone on here, now in zone 8 and we had a few nights where it got pretty cold so i brought them in. I am hoping to make some good hot sauce with these pepper. we'll see how it turns out

Wait until the hot peppers turn red, for ripe, after full size for green.
