Little late season harvest

I picked these today. Some plants definitely showing late season blues. Dropping some leaves, hanging up on ripening etc.. I wish the Jamaican Chocolate would hurry up and ripen again - this is a fave of everyone. To date, I have taken and given over 42 gallons of chilis to friends, family, and employees. Sorry I didn't get them on sooner, but it took me this long with my busy schedule to figure it out!!

I have given away 15 plants to family and friends as well. I know some of the Bhut's aren't exactly ripe, but I am so tired of picking chili's that at this point I don't care. I wqill post more in future.

Oh yeah, we're still getting strawberries, they're still flowering too. We just picked a handful of good sized super red strawberries this weekend. I have no idea what kind we have, just regular old strawberries. I guess we have them in just the right spot in the yard so they get plenty of sun, but are shaded from the heat of the afternoon. Plus we've had just awesome weather so far this summer.

Aside from the brassicas, I've done bush and pole beans and short season cucumbers and gotten decent harvests before the frost kills them. I've also tried annual herbs like dill and cilantro but it was tough to get them to germinate in the heat.

backyardener: If I were you I'd contact Dr Fallahi directly and ask him if there is any way to collect cuttings when they prune this winter. I used to do exactly what he is doing. He won't mind you calling and there is a good chance he will oblige. If not he got his plants somewhere. Maybe he can lead you to a source of either plants or cuttings. This is worth doing. I got my cuttings from Dr David Ramming USDA grape breeder Fresno CA. Dr Fallahi is not testing most of the cultivars you mentioned because they are second and third class grapes. I've grown most of them over the past 30 yrs. Princess, Summer Royal, and Autumn Royal are vastly better eating quality. I'm sure some that Dr Fallahi has are great as well. Lon Romberg, who you can find on the web sells many grapes. Check him out. Another thing, see if Univ of ID is having a grape or fruit field day anytime soon. Get your foot in the door there. It can help you on more fruit than grapes. Call your fruit extension agent or ag extension agent. In a small fruit industry like ID, you can get an inside contact somewhere if you try. Join the ID fruit growers association, find a commercial grower who is testing/growing grapes and offer to buy cuttings from him, etc, etc. The Fruitnut

Thanks for the link, Rita. I'm always searching for good lates. Unfortunately my budget is shot for the year but I will keep it bookmarked. You aren't kidding when you said the photo of Charleston Harvest Red Elf wasn't a good one. They need yours!! I also wish I hadn't looked at the Valentes, but of course I did. Not that they are lates but what caught my attention was all the Maine names...all places I have been like Nubble Light, Marginal Way, Cape Porpoise, etc..... and LOVE that photo of 'Isle of Shoals' which is an island off the coast of my state of New Hampshire...that is a real pretty lily....and beyond my budget (Sigh). I will have much to think about over the winter...LOL. Celeste

I received the plants the last week of April, and transplanted to 1 gallon pots and kept under floros in garage for 10 days. Moved out on the deck for three weeks, then transplanted into the 5 - 14 gallon containers seen here. All organic and really produced like mad. I had mature peppers when most folks on this site were showing small green chili's . I believe you can definitely push the plants through good organic practices. Kind of a pain to have to water everyday though. Thanks TiMoTeO
