I can see the other rose bloom and iris in the Marmalade Mist picture. You are BAD Beth, do you know that? The first one got me,Arizona. I really like Granada Sunset too. I like the name Catalonia and am glad to see it. What can I say obsessed woman, they are all great.

Beth how could anyone ever get sick of such gorgeous roses. I don't think I have ever heard of any of them. I absolutely love Marmalade Mist, Flora Danica, and the unusual color of Fantan. They are all very pretty. Post us some whole garden shots and bush shots please, please!!! Thanks for sharing, Judy

I am with GG48. Fungi around plants are to be appreciated rather than feared. The organic material simply breeds bacteria, fungi and other critters. There are good and bad of everything. The good guys eat either decaying matter or other "bugs". The bad guys eat plants. Using organic matter results in a high population of non harmful worms, bacteria, fungi etc. This population helps to naturally control the plant pathogenic version. Fungi in particular are mean, territorial, violent organisms. They do not take kindly to competition and will go to war over territory. Even the various 'good' fungi will go to war where their territory overlaps with other good fungi. What will not happen is a pathogenic fungi spore falls into the middle of this and be able to grow. It will become food.

Ingrid, sorry if I wasnt clear, Sophy's Rose was Frank's favorite - not sure what Mark Chamblee's favorite Austin is. Frank was a valued and long time employee of Chamblees - he was always there to give advice, propogate and what he didnt know about roses probably wasnt worth knowing. He passed away several years ago [maybe 8-10, I will have to ask his niece Maria when I go on Wednesday] from complications of diabetes. I would always ask him what he thought about this or that rose and he would tell me honestly. I have found his advice about Sophy's Rose right on - I have 2 of them and they are healthy, well shaped and bloom lots. I sure miss Frank - but Maria was his protege and learned so much from him and now with her experience at Chamblees is filling his shoes with great capability. Judith

I like that nicandra, too, also fascinated with the peonies. Are those the same as tree peonies? Since I spring sowed in the ground both kinds of forget-me-nots (easy to grow here), they self seed very readily. One I thought was a goner (thick clump) came back the second year as volunteers around a bleeding heart, even grew in the grass, so I asked that not be mowed until they were done. That other, deeper blue one, mysotis, will come up in cracks, even one in the street and transplanted very easily.

Real, solid brass is such a beautiful colour! It is a soft muted dark gold and has a depth that nickel, chrome, ORB, etc. just cannot match. I really like all the finishes, when they are executed in a style appropriate to the material and if they are very high quality metals. In our living room we have a large wrought-iron chandelier, an antique brass fire screen, a footed brass bowl, a regency style cofee table with brass ormolu and an ornate old black iron stair railing. The adjacent dining room ("open" via cased openings from the LR and foyer) contains a very nice brass chandelier, a thin black iron curtain rod and sterling silver. On that same floor I have bathrooms with ORB and satin nickel (not in the same bath).... I don't know how, but somehow it all "hangs" together. Perhaps the most important element is to select something that looks right in its setting, and that is the difference between eclectic and mishmash. (Of course, any number of people may think what I have is a mishmash, LOL!)

They are all beautiful - you always show us something different and got me hooked on those "odd balls" I love Fantan, Granada Sunset, Meilland Decor Arlequin & Novelty. Great colours!
