Plants for new North-facing bed

My husband is planting a buffalo grass lawn in our front yard. One section of the yard was shaded and the underlying rock close to the surface, so he built a rock wall around it and made a raised bed.

The resulting bed is 3 1/2 feet deep, north facing, but sheltered by a large rock outcropping to the east and south. Shade is pretty much constant.

Any ideas on what might grow there (Zone 4-5)? The soil we put in it is pretty rich with organics and compost. I would prefer perennials, but it is very close to the house, so annuals might be OK too.

Does anyone have any knowledge about growing hellebores in Colorao in such a spot?

Thanks for your help.
